The Plies are actually in the tread. Higher ply rating means more pressure it can hold thus a higher load rating. Tire companies may have their own proprietary compounds that enhance sidewalls, improve or alter load ratings, etc but old school Ply ratings is just the tread. Ply rating and Load rating work together but are 2 different things.

It was just flat road with washboard. Not even large table-rocks. Just dumb luck I picked up a small rock with the worst-possible angles on it. Maybe it was fixable, but it is not a mall-princess so just bought a new tire at $45.

It's not even Friday and a tire discussion comes up - what's next oil?

But are there any tires with an old school ply? E and 10 ply weren't those from the cotton layers days? For the purpose of this discussion, in today's environment/construction technique/aramid/funkadelic fiber is there any distinction?

Campfire discussions have people coming down on both sides - "I couldn't get my OEM wranglers to die so I could replace them" and "Oh, those MF'ers tore a sidewall on my second trip out". I think it's all weighting the dice. You're gonna have a bad day at some point.

    Haha!

The ply ratings (numerical) are the same.. but yeah the materials have changed.. so that's where Load Rating comes in.

Also, it's completely dependent on usage and preference so its never an easy comparison or conversation. lol

Anybody know where I can get some rocks? Haha aside from just going out into the desert obviously. Im building a scale crawler course in my back yard and want to find a couple wheel barrows full of maybe 6-12" rocks. It seems like most of the landscape supply places have all tiny rocks or boulders and not a lot in between.

    Pic of crawlers for fun

Pioneer Valley Landscaping, but I think they only sell in 1/2 ton or 1 ton loads and will only deliver 1 ton or more.

St george to Whitmore. It’s Arizona. I’ll be back in July in Phoenix lol

    IMG_7561.jpg

Did a hike down to the water right away when we got there. Talked to a rafting group on a 21 day trip. Didn’t get a nice Grand Canyon nat park sign picture but that’s what I get for choosing the 85 miles of dirt to get to Grand Canyon.

smaller part of the canyon way west though

You’re all correct. Whitmore overlook from St. George. There’s solidly room for 7 vehicles on flat ground with room, but if you squeeze or let some people deal with slight inclines there’s 12+ spots

I think I’ve also found some south rim areas I want to hit that are up in the area of that old rundown Grand Canyon airport. South rim didn’t make sense for us on this trip but once I live in az again..

Whitmore isn’t that GRAND so on this trip it got kinda overshadowed by canyonlands national park. Those of you that have been there understand

no permit bullshit like toroweap campground 20 miles east. I’m sure that views cool but I’d rather dispersed camp and be away from the masses of other people & permit system shit
