Thoughts on my TRD Pro after First Tank of Gas

Actually still have a quarter left. Had 4mi on it when delivered to the dealer, I put 2mi on it test driving it before the paperwork, and the reset the mpg for the drive home. Only city driving and the computer says 23.0 with a theoretical range of 360. If it’s like other Toyota mpg computers, the distance to empty will decrease faster than the miles driven when you approach empty.

I’m incredibly happy with the truck so far. Coming from a 2G, the fit, finish, and quality of the materials is as good or better. That said, I think the new LC interior feels and looks more premium. If they made an LC truck, I’d be all over it.

I’m 6’, lean/muscular, and the Iso Seats fit great. The moonroof however, does cut into headroom. If I raise the seat to allow rear seat passengers toe room, my head barely clears and static electricity makes my hair stand up. Speaking of rear seat room with the Iso Seats, if I sit in the passenger seat and move the seat forward to where my knees have about 3 inches of clearance from the glovebox (not ideal, but have you flown coach recently?) then I can sit in the back with just over one inch of knee clearance in the shock “pockets”. If I put my knees on either side of the shock frame, the left knee has plenty of room and the right just touches the frame and arm rest. Left knee out, right knee in worked well. Since I am 3” taller than the average US male (and 8½” taller than the average US female), average height people and certainly children can fit easily. Multi-hour trips if front and rear pax are above average, no but taking co-workers to lunch or kids to school would be fine.

Speaking of passengers and height. My 5'7" wife complains about how difficult it is to get in and out. I don't really care for sliders, especially one's that are wide enough to be steps. She's just going to have to deal with it.

 

I like the new LandCruiser interiors better than the new 5th gen 4Runner's and 4th gen Tacoma's. I've read a few times the new Tacoma's need larger fuel tanks.

 

Mpg should have been better on the new truck … Toyota didn’t listen when they designed these trucks .

 

Better fuel milage and more attention to the double cab interior would have been a good place to focus. The storage issue on the hybrid and the seats not folding flat are common complaints. Adding a few inches to the cab could have increased rear seat legroom and allowed for flat folding seats. Something many customers might have appreciated.

Toyota often overlooks or ignores interior dimensions it's no surprise they didn't figure out a way to utilize interior space on the DC.

 

You could get some power folding running boards.

 

I actually thought the Land Cruiser interior was bland compared to the Tacoma, especially the halo trims. The 6G 4Runner is WAY nicer all around IMO.

The 250 series has a fuel tank capacity of 17.9 gallons, TRD PRO Tacoma has an 18.2 gallon tank so going with the Land Cruiser actually gets you a smaller tank.

 

At least she has a handle to grab while Driver side doesn't have it. I'm 5' 5", i'm still in shape enough where it's not too much effort to push myself up there, but my poor seat bolsters are going to wearout quick this way. At least with my height, people have some leg room with the ISO seats

May end up ordering running boards...I wish they had the option that the 22+ Nissan Frontier comes with, where the side steps are easily removable with two bolts on each step when you know you're going off-roading. And I don't want to opt. for an electronic hide-away side step.

 

I'm getting better than the 3G Tacoma and last I checked they didn't have 33s.

6th gen not 5th gen 4runner, that's what I meant.

Sure feels like it especially the lack of leg room in the back seats. When I first sat in the new 2025 4runner (more or less the same vehicle as the new Tacoma) I couldn't believe how cramped and claustrophobic it felt. I really wish I had kept my 2020 trd or premium 4runner.

 

The back seat is definitely more cramped than my 2G was.

But the front is roomier on the 4G IMO.

 

The interior didn't shrink, they made the interior seats, multimedia screen (if you have the 14") bigger so it seams that they take up more space.

 

You'll probably settle in below 23 after getting it out on the HWY and hand calculating, but thats not bad MPG given the lift and tire package especially if you are at elevation.

 

Whats your miles to empty say when you fill up? When my truck was new it would say like 275 or something, but as I put more and more miles on it, that number keeps getting higher.

I'm at 20k now and I'm in the 340's for miles to empty now. When hand calculating mpg I always get 21.5- 22.5 and usually travel about 340ish miles between fill ups.

This is w 93 octane and a manual and I dont beat on the truck but I dont try to hyper mile it either. 80mph on the interstate.

 

Filled up at 350mi and 12mi to empty. Put 15.8 gallons in it and new DTE was 306.

Computer said mpg was 23.0, hand calculated at 22.2, new computer range of 306mi with 15.2gal (3gal reserve) is 20.1.

 

If you need more room in the back under seat on your hybrid get a truck cap. Some may not like caps, but it worked for me and my dog.

Yeah, that deletion irritated me when I replaced my 1997 with a 3G.
Still no handhold on the drivers side and a stranger mod on the passenger side handhold in the 4G.

One thing is for sure, that DeWalt case you previously mentioned probably does not come anywhere close to fitting behind those IsoDynamic seats!

 

Has to be behind the passenger seat anyway so I can grab it in a hurry...

 

Not that this will put the Iso-Seats make the back seat unusable debate to rest, but here's a pic with me, 6', in the passenger and rear seat without moving it. Yes most passengers would prefer to have more leg room, but not all passengers are 6'. Rear leg room certainly isn't great, but again 6' and doable. If leg room comfort for your passengers is your primary concern, a Tacoma is not for you.
