Hey everyone I’m back. I know it might be a long shot asking y’all to go based off little info but maybe some of y’all can be of some help. I pretty much have this high pitched grinding noise that happens when I’m driving. It is pretty constant. Sounds like brakes to me but it’s hard to tell where the sound is coming from. It happens when I am driving and not using the brakes. Pressing the brakes changes nothing. I’m gonna attach a video of the sound. I’m pretty sure it’s always there but sometimes I gotta be up next to parked cars or a wall to really hear it well.

also here is a picture of my brake pads from November. They have 50k miles on them almost but looked fine to me. But maybe idk what I’m talking about…

Something I forgot to add was that this sound has been around for a little while. I did my rear shoes and drums not long ago but this sound was here before then. I have noticed in the past that when I braked the sound quieted or almost went away at times. Now it seems pretty consistent and doesn’t seem to change when I brake

Search this forum for info on how to test if the front wheel bearings need replacement. Typically get a grinding sound when driving. Common issue with these trucks.

For me it turned out to be a tiny piece of rock wedged between pads and rotor. Pull you pads out and check.

I did the wheel bearing tests with the truck jacked up in the past and found nothing. I have to change my oil in the next couple days so when I do that I will jack it up and check again.

    Is your dust cover rubbing?
    Needle bearing?

    This here looks aweful close.
Could be the skew of the photo.

Good idea I’ll take a look at that as well. It’s possible I tweaked it or something when I did my LCAs last year

Ok update: I narrowed the sound down to the front passenger side. Grabbed the wheel at 12 and 6 and tried moving there was no play. Took the wheel off to inspect brakes and noticed that the pads were very thin and need to be replaced. Did not see anywhere where the dust shield was in contact with something. When I spun the rotor I could hear the sound where the pads are. Pads and rotors were done about 50k miles ago. I’m short on money so I’m hoping I can get away with just replacing the pads. The rotor has the slightest lip on it but not bad at all in my opinion. It has visible marks and scratched on it but nothing that I can feel with my finger. I figured I can replace the pads and if the sound persists or if I get other issues from the rotors in the future I can replace them then?

Anyone have any opinions on Bosch pads from rock auto? I’m trying to be affordable but I’m also weary of cheaping out on brakes of all things

I put Bosch from Rock Auto on mine. Very happy with them.

I noticed that the hardware looks a little different than the ones that are currently holding my pads in. Is that ok? I’m assuming it is…

even though it says it’s for a pre runner (mine is a base model) this one seems like it will be more likely to accommodate the current hardware

Just saw that. It’s ok if my truck isn’t pre runner? I’ve always been under the impression that it’s a base from plugging my vin into various sites but hey idk

If you ate a set of pads in 50k, you got bigger problems.

Base would be a 5 lug. Yours is a 6 lug correct?

You have no pad left, looks like the squealer hitting the rotor. If thats the case i would replace or resurface the rotors as well. Go with a OE pads or akebono. Make sure to clean up/wire wheel and grease the brake pad slide pins
