Headlights are already stupid expensive. That would just make them worse to replace. And higher insurance rates. And people would still drive like dumbasses.

Everything’s already expensive. Might as well have something useful for the money we are already lighting on fire.

plus it’s safer, so really it should even out it not reduce rates

That's what they said about collision avoidance.

Turns out..... Fixing that stuff costs thousands more than just swapping a bumper and a crash bar. Oops

But if you have collision avoidance, why would you need a new bumper?

It's not that great of a system?

    Other people don't have it?

    Teslas accelerate towards parked cars?

Turns out it’s not worth asking why insurance becomes more expensive. The same reasons can be used to say it will reduce costs and increase costs. They can also make up new reasons as necessary.

Autonomous cars are infinitely safer than dumb stupid human drivers. Society cannot trust the judgement of people to handle scary and dangerous things, and it’s not worth the trouble to teach them these things.

We should make driving human controlled cars illegal and mandate full autonomy. It will be so safe that insurance costs go down to nearly zero.

    That was sarcasm.

Teslas also use cameras which is a terrible system. You need lidar / radar.

Vehicles are also designed to dissipate energy vs being a solid chunk of steel which means more things break in an accident.

Correct, however replacing crumpled parts us easier when you don't have to do radar alignment or put thousands of dollars of electronics back into them

Your sarcasm is probably less than a decade away from becoming reality. Pretty scary if you ask me.

the technology is getting better there's only a couple companies doing level 3 automation and very limited testing of level 4. theres a long way to go.

people still complain about L2 stuff, its gonna take a while for people to trust 3+

Is someone available to stop by my place and flip my TW WI calendar in the garage to April next week? Maybe pet my dog for me too? I'll be a little busy.

Went to the store for the last minute groceries for next week. While I was in there, the parking lot really cleared out. When I did get out of the store, I saw this fantastically set-up Tacoma across the way. I thought: Damn, the places that could go!

I have collision avoidance...it's called a brain. I try to exercise it regularly.
