Live crabs and live shrimp in the tanks before cooking the little devils ... :hungry:

(many other tanks of different types of seafood too)
    .........

In Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) now and we had the best seafood buffet dinner and at the best price ever.

First, to put it in perspective ... 10 years ago, my wife went to an all you can eat buffet for crabs at $100.00 each person in southern USA.

Now, 2 days ago in Siagon aka HCMC we had a seafood buffet with almost everything in the oceans, including, but not limited to ... crabs, oysters, oysters Rockefeller, grouper, many types of shelled things I could not name, stuffed shrimp with crab meat, lobster and fish eggs kinda like caviar and special of the day was Alaskan King Crabs. Everything was included (except beer or wine) and our bill for 4 people was only $98.00 total in a cool Japanese and super clean restaurant. No credit cards and only cash or bank to bank transfer kinda like Zelle.

And all of the seafood was fresh in tanks (except frozen AK King Crab) and they took the seafood out of the tanks in front of you and cooked it.

We have a big family meeting (16 to 20 people) in the next 2 weeks and we will go back there again and I will take better pics.

Wife is SEAsian and she knows the best places to go. I asked her how they keep the high quality at such a low price ... they do their own fishing and barter/trade on docks for what they don't have.

PS Best seafood sauce ever ... kinda sweet, yet hot ... loved the sauce.

Wife just fixed an early dinner, mostly fresh veggies, with a splash of oil olive oil and some rice noodles. :hungry: I finally talked her into NOT using "seed oils" and we bought some extra virgin olive oil for most of our cooking needs.

Finding a good olive oil here in Ho Chi Minh City is not easy and it's a little pricey. Have to be careful not to buy fake, much lower quality Chinese olive oil.

The local red pepper flakes are hot and I put them on almost everything.

Wanted to get some strawberries, but Japanese or Korean strawberries are $21.00 :spending:USD for a very small container  that I can get in Georgia for $3.00 USD max.

Fresh veggies are really cheap here though.

i grew up on those and have never made them myself from scratch. My mother would make a huge batch rolling out the dough on our 1950's enameled steel top kitchen table. Here in central Connecticut its easy to get them in Polish restaurants and delies. In Polish, pierog (pear rogue) is singular and pierogi is plural form.

    Now I'm hungry.

 no worries, but arugula on tacos is a hill I will die on, that it is great. I even like cilantro, but arugula in there is fantastic.

    Maybe it's arugula

Cannoli is the plural in Italian, it's Cannolo for singular.

    Similarly...Spaghetto.

My sweet wife made a simple breakfast for me today. Crockpot New Zealand beef (lots of good pork here but hard to get good beef here).

She gave me a fork and a spoon which is very unusual , I mostly get chopsticks and I can do ok with.

The main reason I posted this pic is the bread ... WOW .. just WOW ... best bread in my life :hungry: .... CRUNCHHHYYY on the outside and like a cotton candy texture on the inside  with a Hawaiian Bread taste. and the cost is about 9 cents each for a 10" loaf  and they bake 24/7/365 about 2 minutes from here

Back to the USA in about 13 days ... :oldglory: ... love coming over to SEAsia, but love going home toooooo ... takes about a week to sleep adjust and really 2 weeks to acclimate your whole body .... sleep and digestive system to the food here. A month here is the max for me.

FWIW ..this is supposed to be a "Socialist (kinda Communist system) .. but I see more BIG BLACK M/B MAYBACHS here than in the big cities in the USA. ... lol

A lot of CLOSET CAPITALISM here toooo ... lol

Went to "HOT POT" dinner last night and the family likes fancy drinks that look like an aquarium in a glass  ... I drink bottled water ... lol
I like hot pot , but not every meal like they do.

^^^ Cooking shrimp in hot pot ... I like this ...but hot pot fish is to mushy for you ...

    IMG_1848.jpg
^^^ Hot Pot sauces that you blend yourself ...

I TRY to have a food budget here for $50.00 USD for 4 of us daily ($12.50 each, per day in USA won't feed you at McDonalds) ... but it is closer to $75.00 a day for 4 in very good restaurants and we sometimes we get a $1.00 to $2.00 simple rice or noodles and good veggies meal .... $75.00 a day for 4 ... will feed you like a king in most good restaurants here .... exceptions are the super fancy hotels were breakfast buffet can be $35.00 USD each.

We did find that super Japanese restaurant where we had the best Seaford buffet and fresh too for $96.00 USD for 4 ...total and super fresh too.

I like the food here, but my favorite food is in Thailand ... :hungry:

We are NOT rich, so we do everything on a budget :spending:that we adjust daily ... wife is thrifty with $$$ too ... lol

...^^^... She asked me what "cooking forum" this is ???

I told her it is a Toyota Tacoma (truck) website and she was VERY confused then o_O ... lol

She said why are they good cooks and do they know you don't have a Tacoma now and drive a 4Runner ...
maybe if they catch you, they throw you out ?

She always asks many, many questions ... o_O

She is only 4'-11" and 97 pounds and is a tiger to get things done and VERY family oriented.

Most of the Mods and a lot of regulars no longer drive Tacomas either, but man these people know how to eat!
There's a thread for everything here... foodies, smoking foods , grilling foods, crockpot foods, air fryers, gluten free, breads and on and on and on.
