What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

You don’t see all white up front too often but man that looks good!!

 

Finally got around to replace Garmin dashcam that died on me in January in Utah. I’ve been in a rut since end of January and haven’t had much motivation to work on any Tacoma projects except for an oil change.

My paint also started to peel on the rear doors, so currently I’m at the local dealer’s waiting room while they are doing their thing examining the truck for the Toyota white paint program.

 

That makes 2 of us. Stock height is pretty good for all around driving

 

Yeah for y'all 4x4 guys and gals, even though I love my Taco, for the life of me, I don't know why they put a rwd truck on a 4x4 suspension (less inventory and tooling/design), I really wish it was a couple of inches lower, and at only an est 2600 miles a year being driven, it's gonna be under warranty for a while longer.. so not taken a chance on lowering it (w/aftermarket kit) and having to fight with the dealer over something cause it has been modified... Right or wrong, Just not worth the hassle... If I wanted a pre runner thing, I would have ordered the TRD sport... lol...

But once I climb up in it, I do love it, but damn them drop steps hurt like hell when you are just leaning in to buckle the grandkids in or something and forget about them... I don't need them, but my wife and daughter sure does...

I know it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but…. I found a 24 trailhunter bed rack and bought it. I like the look and was worried about it fitting the 3rd gen. Got it home, did some measurements, and installed it today. Looks great! Had to modify the front brace by drilling new holes to align it with the cab bed rail. I guess the 4th gen has a higher bed rail in relation to the side rails. The other thing I worried about was the cross bar obscuring the 3rd brake light. It actually goes just above the light.

 

I think it looks good, really good against the white truck with the tinted windows...

 

Sunny day yesterday! Added a second NOCO outlet on my Taco. Now one is for the trickle charger which can run continuously, the other one is for the block heater and the battery heater which run on a timer.
Also installed VLEDS Footwell lights front (rear yet to be installed) and rewired my HUD to IG1 No1. Rewired dash cam park mode box to IG1 No1 and the house battery. Then it stared to rain... Still have to rewire the OBDII splitter for the HUD to IG1 No1.

 

I can count the amount of times I've parallel parked in my life on 1 hand

 

Detailed the inside of my Taco completely, vinyl and leather. Not doing the outside yet cause the green and yellow pollen cometh.

How do you go about utilizing its features?

 

Installed some sound mat in the rear of the cab. Still got some spots to cover up before the rear seat delete arrives.

 

Bashed my skid plates and one of the crossmembers on some rocks really good on a road in Death Valley. Wasn't even rock crawling was just a downhill section of gravel where someone before me had dug very deep holes in the slipery gravel by braking hard. It snuck up on me and I couldnt slow down enough or get around it and it caused my suspension to bounce wacking my bely against the ground 3 times.

Looks like there was a big rock somewhere it the gravel that caught on the crossmember and skid plate. My OEM front skid plates are bashed in as well.

I am just glad the rock didnt hit 6in forward where the oil pan is not covered. Amazigly the exhaust cross that hangs even lower than all of the stuff that got bashed is completely unscathed. Honestly would have welcomed the excuse to reroute it.....

 

My IQ goes up; doesn’t help with chances of winning the lottery, however.

 

Hopefully, this will be the last oil change on this truck for me. I plan on either trading it in on a new hybrid sport Tacoma or selling it outright and buying a new Tacoma. First I need to remove and sell many of the mods that I have done and put back the OEM parts that I took off.

 

Got my rear seat storage a little more organized and modified my platform to give enough space when closed for my molle bags.
Behind my seat I've got;
-Milwaukee m18 inflator
-ammo can with m18 charger and battery
-headrest (in case I need to put the seat back up for passenger)
-bike lock
-battery jump pack
-Indeflate tire deflator with patch kit and spare valve cores
-Blue Ridge Overland tool bag
-molle bag 1 four ratchet straps
-molle bag 2 handheld gmrs radios
-molle bag 3 Milwaukee headlamp, usb charger, and assortment of charging cables

Some time this spring I am going to make a full seat delete platform that can be removed easily so I can have it installed just for when I go on trips. Unfortunately I occasionally have to use the rear seat for 1 extra passenger so I can't make a really nice full time seat delete.

Side note, anyone ever successfully solved their door rattle when the bass and volume is up? it's coming from the damn window switch panel.

 

Take off panel, wrap each wire in cheap weather strip foamy stuff. Done. Worked for me. Or, use electrical tape to tape wires to whatever is nearby like inside door panel...
