XTC speaker baffle

I'm planning on installing Boston Acoustics 6.2 Pro Series (Old School) 6 1/2" component speakers in the front doors. I noticed water spots on the factory speaker...especially on the extended lip to protect the factory speaker from water. Do any of you use XTC speaker baffles to protect the 6 1/2" drivers from water, dust, moisture? How are you guys protecting the mid-bass driver in the door?

not in a door you want to get as much air behind the woofer as you can for bass response, this means seal that door up with deadner.

 

I've seen someone make a protective "umbrella" type thing like the stock speaker has. Basically, he took thin sheet aluminum and cut slits in it every inch. The piece was long enough that it was half of the circumfrence of the speaker opening. He then bent it at each cut and attached it to the inside of the mounting hole above the speaker.

It could really help out if a lot of water gets in there. I don't really know how much gets in the doors of the Taco though so I haven't done it myself yet. I did consider doing it though when I was installing mine. And come to think of it I did find some aluminum flashing int the garage yesterday. I might do it myself sometime later.

 

how long did you guys make yours???? wont the metal screw the speaker????

 

I used the hard plastic version. Cut out the bottom half of the enclosure so its just a hood and covered half the back... (think of removing the southern hemisphere) had to slit the bottom mounting flange and stretch it to widen it so my magnet would fit as the whole top half was too narrow. Put 3M windsheild butyl tape between it and the rear of my MDF baffle and stapled that bitch on. Protects great and does not act as a mini enclosure.

Saving money would be gluing a strip of plastic on the back of the baffle whose width matches your magnet depth... mine was overcomplicated and expensive.
Also didn't count on the thing not fitting my magnet. Didn't even bother doing the rear the front was such a pain.

 

i was thinking of doing that aluminum way, would the aluminum affect the speaker in any way???

 

No, because its attached to the MDF baffle/spacer, not the speaker.

Aluminum is not magnetic
