TACOMABUZZ New Tacoma!!!

I just traded my 05 DCBLB AT 4x4 V6 for a Brand new 2011 Manual 4cyl 2wd Reg cab . I do a 400+ Mile commute weekly for work and gas is nearing $5.00 Gal. Going without a truck is not an option, so i think this compromise was the best option. Although i am a little disappointed that i had to downgrade, i am already impressed with the power of the 5 spd 4cyl and i am having a lot more fun than my automatic. New pics coming soon!!!

 

5 or 6 lug?

do they even have a 2wd 6lug 4cyl 5spd?

Anyway... congratz. I have been pleased with my 4cyl. I needed to limit myself on power, I was gonna kill someone driving my last car.

 

Congrats ... .the 4 will treat you well .... sound reasoning .... if things settle down you can always go back ..... great highway mpgs ..... gee, all the V6er's must be asleep .

 

Damm! The post title had me hoping it was a sneak preview spy photo of the new Gen 3.

 

Its a 5 lug Reg Cab Base, Cheapest tacoma price wise avaliable. i already drove 100 miles and the needle has barely jumped!!!!

 

Unless you live by the shore this is silly choice. You can buy 2wd tacos slightly used for really cheap (5K) and they have super low mileage too. I would keep 4x4 for winter and spent 3K on 2wd beater Tacoma.

Actually better idea, you could just buy used Golf TDI remove back seats put piece of the wood and you would have as much space as in 5 lug pickup, I think payload would be similar too but with 50 MPG

Your average is showing 22 MPG , my average from today on scanguage is 24 MPG. Thats for V6 4x4 DBLB with Limited slip (which BTW improves mileage )

 

Yay for you, My DCLB AT 4x4 V6 Averaged 19-20 Mixed and that's with a full tune up, Going without a truck was not an option, I don't need to sell anyone on my personal choice.To each their own, you don't agree with my choice fine, it doesn't affect you.

 

Actually, according to Toyota, his payload just increased by 90 lbs

Since he had the same options as you before the upgrade...that also means his new payload is... nevermind

Also, I'm so tired of people saying crap about the MPGs being similar. EPA esimates for his new truck are 5 MPGs better at both city and highway than his old truck. What are Toyota and the EPA sandbagging the V6 numbers and pumping up the I4?!? Give me a break. Bottom line, case closed.

The V6 is faster, and will increase your ability to tow with the available tow package. The I4 engines have higher payload and better MPGs. These are official numbers not my opinion.

Sorry to see you lose the power of the V6, but if you're happy with the new truck, then good on ya!

 

You started the thread I replay to it. If you wanted only replays that say (yay for 2wd) should have stated.
If you happy with your choice then good for you. Personally I think thats silly unless again you live at the shore right by i-95 where you get warmer air and less mountains.
Plus considering the 5 luggers in New England are cheap with no resale value you could have bought used one for cheap with low miles.
BTW how much trade in you got for your truck and what was the mileage on it ?

Point is, you can drive V6 and get good mileage. People trade for i4 expecting miracles. Its not the car its driver.

"Good mileage" is relative. Sure, I agree that the driver is at least as important as the vehicle when it comes to MPGs. However, OP stated he was getting 19/20 which is pretty close to spot on to the EPA estimates for his truck. Actually its a few MPGs higher then the 16/20 (18 average) estimate.

Since he is the same driver, if he was able to get a few MPGs above EPA in his last vehicle, he should be able to do the same in his new. His new vehicle is better suited to get higher MPGs... I don't think he is expecting a miracle... I think he is expecting to get about 5MPGs better than he was, while still having a dependable truck and also getting into something newer.

Throw a good CAI in it and you'll increase you gas mileage even more. I like my volant but I'm putting on a snorkel. I recommend K&N if your not putting on a snorkel. I saw an increase of about 4 MPG when I installed my CAI.

22 in Virginia Beach city traffic ..... >28 on the highway at 65 mpg.

I know we all love our Tacomas but ..... some have to relax a bit ....

X2 Doesn't matter if you prefer 2wd/ 4wd , Reg cab/Double cab, Manual/Automatic. Apples to oranges everyone has different needs+preferences. Tacomaworld is not a place for a pissing contest, but a place for all of us Tacoma enthusiasts to come together and share knowledge.
