Took a drive up to a house in the mountains to look at some deck repairs. Same place I did some interior painting about a year ago. Not much snow on the ground other than on the actual ski resort. But lakes are still covered/frozen.

Oh and on the drive up there was a row/line of Tacomas, in proper Generation order with Gen 1 in the lead, me next, etc. I almost wanted to flag everyone down for a pic.

Those that know me well understand my passion for the outdoors and particularly fly-fishing. I share my adventures here. My interest in fishing in general started at a young age (5-6) as my parents would let my grandfather (my father's dad) and his brother in laws take me along their fishing adventures in Western Maine (famous for world class native brook trout). Their method was trolling (via rowing) the numerous lakes in that region. Those trips could have been 2 hours or 8. They seemed "old" but were probably my age (mid 50's). Funny how that works. I still remember those adventures to this day.

In my late teens, I learned more of my families history in the area. Some of my great-uncles (my grandmother's brothers) were famous (in the 50's) fly-fishing guides in this area. I believe they were fishing primarily for Atlantic Salmon that would run up the rivers. Those fish are now gone, but the brook trout and rainbow trout are still there. My grandfather gave me some fly fishing gear that belonged to one of them. He guided the likes of Ted Williams (of baseball legend). That started my fly-fishing journey. In that box of gear were some fly patterns with no names. I've had one in particular re-created by a trusted friend. It works anywhere I use it. I've never shown it to anyone and keep it's history a secret to most. It's the first fly I tie on anytime I go fishing....just because.

I'm making an effort this fishing season to track down some of their old stomping grounds. I know of one particular river that they frequented. I was in that area today. I'm going to connect with some 2nd cousins later this month to hopefully gain some more insight.

    Should be an adventure.

Oh cool. That's a nice drive even this time of year when it's kinda bleh.

I like your story about fishing, I think those kind of special secrets are important.

Yah, I went up to Sugarloaf, then went a little north and cut over to Rangeley from Eustis.

So much for the warm weather.
Got up to 78 deg at noon and the front bumped South a bit. Dropped 25 deg in 45 min. :bananadead:
