Another Bedside Chipping Thread...

My Service Tech was quite sympathetic and said all the right things, except "Toyota will fix this." He and his Manager took photos and discussed it with me and said they would call me as soon as they heard from the regional. Not expecting any good news, but at least I'm on record with this in Toyota now, for what it's worth.

Would adding ppf in the red circle area not prevent the rock chips?

 

I'm on stock offset, with the wider canadian flaps. Truck has 600km with maybe 70 on dirt. Pretty disappointing.

how much should I expect to pay to have this type of PPF done on the bed sides? Tempted to get it myself. Thanks!

 

I’m the process of a quote. Shouldn’t be that much. Working on getting a tint annd ppf done ant the same time. This is also a diy.

 

Best protection are running boards, the stock ones work great.My TRD OR premium has zero chips.

 

Which specific running boards do you have? TIA

 

I don't know why this just hit me that running boards would block a ton of spray onto the painted body. Definitely gotta get some running boards, or at least much better PPF than what the factory gives you in those high impact areas.

 

Do it yourself, there’s plenty of how to videos out there on installing PPF and that area has minimal curves or fancy shapes that make it more difficult. It’s not hard to do.

I’d peel off the cheap Toyota stuff that they put on that’s too low and replace it all and higher up with some Xpel. They sell a 8 foot x 6 inch roll on Amazon for less than $25. You can do both sides with it.

 

Running boards are ugly imo anyway. I’m thinking about adding the trd pro rocker panels instead to protect the lower panels

 

I was quoted $300 for each rear quarter panels here in jersey for ppf.
but watching youtube, it seems fairly easy DIY.

 

I got the ppf to come up about 6 to 8 inches higher and this is my white...36k km.

 

I think I’ll apply mind passed the tank cap.

 

Looks like the edge of the tank cover is getting nailed too.

I ceramic coated it as well it goes in for a touch up in May i will get them to touch up the spots and go another 8 inches higher with the ppf

 

Applying ppf is pretty easy for that area. I would buy the 3M film yourself for $20 and do it yourself and ave you the money.

 

3M is trash, so many better products out there now.
