And the judge would probably laugh you out of the courtroom when you told them that you lent the vehicle for the express purpose of off roading. Judge would cite the long standing precedent of FAFO V. PSGWSP.

If they drove it home and the air filter is dry, I would not worry about electrical connections and hydrolock. The important thing is getting the carpet cleaned and dry, and possibly replacing rear diff fluid, if you haven't done the rear breather relocate mod. The front breathers likely were not submerged, so front diff fluid may be fine. The cost of 2 bottles of diff oil to replace is not high, though, and should be replaced every 15 to 30k miles, so maybe it doesn't hurt to be safe.

If the carpet does start to smell, get it professionally cleaned and have your boyfriend pay for it.

I realize it's hard to forgive, but if your boyfriend is willing to pay up to make it right, it's the right thing to do to forgive. Money comes and goes. It's life. Hopefully, some day you will both be able to laugh about it.

You loaned it to your soon to be ex? To go off roading? WTF! Sorry but you made a stupendously irresponsible poor decision. My advice is to make better decisions and think about the consequences of your decisions in the future. Time for a little self reflection .
Sounds like he’s not offering to do the right thing and take care and pay for all damage. That being the case I’d give him a good kick in the balls and move on with your life.
I guess you could look on the positive side, he did take it to a car wash afterwards. That was awful nice of him.

    Hindsight is always 20/20.

Let's face it, she came here for advice from this lot of fools about her current fool.

I believe Reddit commands you burn down his parents house, sue him for damages, and go no contact. Internet rules are weird.

Pull the door sills that hold the carpet down and kick panels out and pull the carpet up as much as you can and then prop it up with something so you can get a fan blowing air on the padding in the padding and dry up any standing water. Where your feet go is the low spots so you only really need to lift the carpet up enough to get to those areas. The rest you can dry out with fans and a dehumidifier like you are already doing. Keep running the dehumidifier until the carpet padding under the carpet is dry and you should be fine. Pulling the seats and all the carpet out is excessive. It will dry in place with plenty of air flow and dehumidifiers.

For sure check your rear diff for water. They don't have a breather hose like most trucks. The breather is right on the axle.

Sorry can’t pass up a chance for a Seinfeld meme

    Bummer hard lesson learned.
I personally would absolutely never let ANYBODY borrow my truck to go off roading
