It's too much weight if the bike is ok to push/bump start in my opinion. Anything over 600lbs maybe, but otherwise I'd leave it at home. Trickle chargers are light and you could charge the battery at a gas station/hotel if there's a real problem.

Meh. Ive read multiple times of the AG battery bms failing and that doesnt work in those scenarios. Assuming you are referring to AG at least.

Yeah, it’s what i have but other manufacturers are making them now too. Mines still kicking from late 2018 :notsure:

I always think back to project farms original (maybe? several years ago; first one i saw him do on them at least) jump pack video when they come up, where he got a faulty gb40 and rated it very, very poorly. Failures can happen with almost anything. I still bought and have a gb40, too. Saved my ass when my 4runners alternator shit the bed.

Sure. Its just not something i would count on if i was worried about a dead battery, a cell going bad and that feature is useless anyways.

Im still not confident or at least understand what it actually does other than save some charge that could you have eaten up trying to start it without knowing. More of an indicator of a dying battery?

Thing is the YSR shipped as a street legal bike. It already had everything on it, horn, lights, signals, etc.

It just reminds me of being a kid(I was 7 or 8 when they came out) a seeing the BW's and Fat Cat's
I get that, but if you add all necessary stuff.....I don't see the problem.

Busy motorcycling weekend for me. Bike dealership not horribly far from me announced they were restarting their "Modern Classics" motorcycle show that hasn't been held since Covid a few months back, so I marked it on my calendar and planned to attend. I mentioned something to @FreshOldTaco to see if he wanted to meet me at the show and then go hit some GLMC grand tour locations so we made a plan and met up Saturday morning in Boyerstown, PA. First I had to hit a stop or two on the way.

Morgantown, PA at the Old Village Inn and Tavern

Made a quick stop to refuel then hit Gilbertsville for Little Gio's Pizza Shop

Then rolled over to Martin Moto to meet @FreshOldTaco . Dealership cleaned out their entire showroom and turned it into a museum of sorts for the weekend. All bikes had to be approved to be in the show and they wanted only the best and rarest or at least seldom seen bikes they could get.

When have you ever seen on of these?

    Or how about this?

Maybe you might remember a few of these.

Suzuki RG500 Gamma, never sold for street use in the US. 4 cylinder 2 stroke race bike for on the street.

A JDM Honda CBX400 Integra. I'd never even heard of this bike before. Similar to my own CB400F Super Sport this 400cc inline 4 with factory 4 into 1 exhaust featured inboard front disc brakes and frame mounted fairing was for sale. 39,000 for this under 4k miles rare never imported to the US model.

Having seen everything we headed out in search of GLMC locations which I had premapped.

Leesport, PA for the Leesport Diner

Classic Harley Davidson for a poker chip. Technically in Leesport but their poke chips say Reading so only 1 point instead of the 2 I anticipated.

    Laureldale, PA at Grumpy's Bar.

Mount Penn, PA where we had to find a better option that what I had planned. A large, old pine tree obstructed the first sign and you couldn't get a good picture so we found this. Jake's Sandwich Shop.

Then on to Mohnton, PA for Mangia! Italian Restaurant where we actually ate lunch.

I needed to be home by 4:00 so after lunch we went our separate ways but I made sure to give him a few more locations to grab on his ride home. 218 miles for the day and I'm now at 55 points in the event.

Sunday for me was a much needed and maybe even put off maintenance day. I've been watching my rear tire get thinner by the ride and it was time. Getting started:

Looking like a land speeder out of Star Wars maybe...

    In process

    A couple of hours later

2 new tires, 90 degree valve stems, reflective rim tape, pulled final drive and lubed drive shaft splines. Above photo you can see the black rim tape. Below is with flash to show what light hitting it will do. Bike in same position.

Rear tire was done. Wet roads were a pucker inducing moment by this point.

Ready to go for the season now.

@BkerChuck to clarify, when you say season...you mean month?

Big fan of the Michelin Road series. What is that new one?

Nary a single Guzzi at that moto show. Some amazing bikes tho. I've always wondered about the Morini 3 1/2...

This is officially my worst year riding in 15. I've hardly touched a bike. Only room for one at a time in my new place, and that one is on the lift STILL waiting for an exhaust. Combined with other standard life challenges means major PMS. Living vicariously through your posts at this point.

Sure, but if a cell goes bad a jump box is going to be useless, too, most can only do short bursts unless it's a high end option that can do 12v supply and those are massive. If you kill your battery from trying to start it for half an hour, then yeah, it isn't going to do shit. It's more for parasitic drains to prevent you from fully draining your battery. Best example I have is I left my aux lights on while I was at work all day, came back to dead battery. Hit the button, boom, have enough battery to crank it up and go. I think it cuts off continuity at 11v?

Keep in mind I split the miles between 2 FJRs.

When I bought that bike it had fairly new Michelin Road 6GT tires on it. Seller told me they had roughly 2k miles on but he couldn't remember exactly. I put just under 10k on them and that back is done for the way I ride. I installed new Michelin PR4GTs. I had a pair in reserve and I've been running them on the other FJR. Assuming the PO was correct that means the Road 6GT lasted about 12k miles and all of that was solo. With the PR4GT and much of my riding on the other FJR being 2-up I've been getting over 13k per set and they're less expensive than the Road 6 GT.

Now that you mention it, I don't recall seeing a single Guzzi there. There might have been one in the parking lot thinking back. Glad I can at least help you live vicariously.....Fingers crossed you get your exhaust back soon.

    @BkerChuck

Curious. Of the FJR range you have a 13 and a 14. Do you prefer them to the later model bikes for some reason?

Honest answer, I really love the red of the 2014 and that was a one year only color. The 2013 I mainly bought just because I got such a great deal but it's also a one year only color.

They did get a 6 speed and LED lighting starting in 2016 but 2016 is the same blue in 2006,2012,2016, 2022,2023,2024. Black has been used at least 3 times. Liquid Graphite (grey) was used 3 times. Matte Blue at least 3 times.

Cosmetics is key. No shame in that. So did they only do a single color per year? There's a beautiful '21 for sale near me. Owner calls it Grey but it damn near looks black. Not the lighter shade you have.

I don't know. Canada and Europe sometimes got colors not offered in the US. For 2014 the Canadian FJR is a Root Beer Brown metallic that's really sharp. My 2007 that I had was Black Cherry Pearl and a one year only color. I often wished they'd have offered a Kenny Roberts edition with the Yellow/White/Black but that would have forced me to buy a new one so I'm sort of glad it never happened.

I gotta get out more and ride. Summer is slowly making it's way here.
Took it out last week to run the local canyon only to find large amounts of sand and gravel strewn along every corner. That got my attention quick on the first slide thru a corner. CDOT was doing some kind of maintenance higher up. I made it up 14 miles, slowly, then gave up and took another route back that was much cleaner.
On another note, I ordered a 15t front sprocket (14t stock) to see if I can improve the ridiculously low gearing of the Versys.
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06X9DP274?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title
I found some info on Youtube about JT Sprocket that has the rubber mount and ordered that one. It requires 3 washers to make it fit correctly due to a difference over the stock sprocket, but others have done it and so far no problems. Sprocket will be here today, washers maybe next week.

I am partial to the red of my super tenere as well (same as your FJR). Definitely a more limited color, the guy i bought my Super Tenere from was ADDICTICED to that red color, he had just about every yamaha motorcycle made in that color haha.

I have a rubber dampened sprocket on my F800GS, I think this is my second one, and I was shocked at the difference it made in chain noise.
