Too late for my Rear Spring TSB?

Im curious as to who else failed to join Tacomaworld in time to read up on the rear spring TSB...or thats just me
I did buy my taco used with 34K but I'm sure I read somewhere that the factory warranty expires after 36K, which means I can't get the TSB now? I have alittle over 40K on my '08 now. Soooo did I completely miss out on a free upgrade to the rear or is there still hope??

 

You're not alone. Bought mine with 48k and didn't demand it be done before purchasing. I will direct you now to a 1.5 AAL from Toytec or other place of choosing to remedy the problem for 80.00 if/when the dealership says no. But try several dealerships first. Who knows, you could luck out. Good luck.

 

Yea Ive been looking into all the available leaf packs, just dont know which one is better or if an AAL would be best for a 5100 2.5" lift.

There has been some that got it done after the warranty went out. Usually they had a bit of a relationship with the dealer.

Definately might as well try.

If not, it sounds like you already have found some options.

 

Yea Im gunnna take it in and see what they can do this weekend. Hopefully I can convince them to do it. If I get lucky I'll definitely keep you guys posted on how much "sweet talkin" i had to do

 

I did 5100s @ 2.5 with the 1.5 AAL added to the 3 leaf crap pack. Has held up good and rides nice. Night and day difference the way the rear handles at speed around corners. All that twitchy flippy feeling is gone. Have hauled 1500 lbs a coupla times without issue and without hitting bumpstops.

 

Now thats somethin I like to hear! What kind/make 1.5 AAL did you go with?

 

Toytec, they also have the 1/4" top plate spacer for the driver side strut to fix the "Taco Lean".

 

I have an 07 and I was told at the dealership three years or 36K, this was yesterday.I'm goin wheeler's 2in AAL and billies 5100.

 

To be honest I know only "some" of the basics as far as lifts go, so what do you mean by the "Taco Lean"?

I'm in a similar spot OP. Bought an 08 with 40k miles and took it in earlier today. They wanted $1975 for the rear leaf TSB! I told them that this was crazy and I could do a whole truck lift for half that price. Dealership is going to talk with Toyota and see if they'll cover it... I'm not expecting anything good though.

 

What exactly do the TSB springs do anyway?

Are they a stiffer rate?

Do they add ride-height?


My 07 only has 23k miles, but unfortunately it's been passed 3 years.

 

Yes that is correct I bought my 2005 double cab with 56k on it and had it done. but I did buy the extended coverage and all they replaced was the springs not the shocks

Air Bags were my solution on my '05 DC... Ride Rites, worked fantastic!

 

I've actually been very happy with mine. They added quite a bit to the payload as well as ride nice.

Is your 2010 the truck you haven't been happy with the TSB, or did you have it on a different truck? Just curious. Thanks.

 

I wonder how I lucked out with getting a 2010 that has better springs than the 2005? Christian, did your 2010 spring number (that came on the truck) have the letter -K after it, as mine do? What was the TSB replacement spring #? Was it three leaf or 4?

 

Drivers side 1/2 inch lower than the passenger side when looking at the front of the truck. Measure from ground thru center of wheel to wheel arch opening on both sides to see if same or drvr side shorter. 1/4 inch spacer on drvr side adds 1/2" of lift to even it up. It goes between top of strut and chassis mount. The factory studs on the strut are long enough to have the nuts fully threaded.

 

wow, that's surprising. I've had much more weight in mine and have never bottomed out. I assume you counted and made sure you got the 4 leaf pack. There has been many instances where dealerships ordered the wrong leaf pack and actually put the oem 3 leaf pack in that was the same as what was already there.

 

So that is the definitive way to tell?

OE = 3 leaf pack

TSB = 4 leaf pack
