plenty of aftermarket radios that do the 'no bells or whistles' portion.

is the one on top just a blank cover? or is it like some kind of double radio?

yes, and yes. it' a filler, the radio kit used offered a pocket, but it only installed in the lower position. i wanted my real radio in the lower position for easier use, and needed a blank to fill the top spot.

it's an old sony xplod radio i had laying around that came with a siblings car years ago. sort of an interesting radio, but i never hooked it up and lost the harness for it a long time ago. has a motorized face that flips between 2 settings. anti-theft mode with a concealed display, and deployed mode with buttons and a display

    .

ya, my sister has her backup camera relocated to her rear view mirror. it's really small but it works.

i wonder if they or someone will ever invented hologram navigation, or even just projection onto the windshield.

i mostly use my mirrors anyways. camera's get me in trouble because the corners are what makes contact, not the center.

I absolutely love this head unit. Rocking the DNR1007XR. Lots of options on it to really dial in the sound. Alice in Chains Unplugged never sounded so good.

What are people doing for speakers? Amp? I like it now, but I also know the stock speakers are a major limit.

I'm running an Alpine R-A90S amp to Kicker KS speakers and a JL Audio Stealthbox sub behind the rear passenger seat. Was it expensive? Yes. Was it worth it? Also yes.

I love my DMX 1037S. But I have a few questions if someone could answer them for me please

    1. Is there a specific back up/front camera i need to use? Ive collected quite a few cameras over the years but none of them work. The screen just goes black when i put truck in reverse.
    2. It seems like everytime the hu boots up, the music blasts through the speakers. After a few seconds it lowers to whatever previous volume i had it at previously. Is there a setting im missing or wires that shouldnt be connected thats causing this? This is my biggest gripe with the hu. I HATE that it does that
    3. Some days it the hu is constantly disconnecting from Android Auto. So ill hit the AA icon after a min or so and it comes back on.
    4. Is there a way to have your own custom home screen back ground?
    5. Can i change or add widgets or apps to ones i ld rather have? Like Youtube, netflix, etc?

Overall I love this head unit. I just wish it was a few hundred dollars cheaper

I can help with one of your questions. You can make a custom home wallpaper just download the Kenwood portal app and transfer a single photo that way. If you want a new wallpaper you have to replace that one with a new one using the app.

I used my stock rear cam as for how it hooked up, I paid for an install so it's under warranty

Do you have your camera set to the right mode? I think the DMX comes on by default as HD and you need to move to NTSC for the OEM bed camera, check that in the camera setups.

I can't really help with this one, other than to say do you have the latest firmware on the system? That might clean this up.

See what @Darthkevyn said before. There used to be a way to put images on via USB, but that doesn't seem to work now.

Not that I know of, it would be nice.

You have Android, you should be able to screen share, would that work?

I will add on video there is a hack you can do that will make your life a lot nicer - bypass the handbrake security - that will make the HDMI port available while the car is moving and you can run apps through that via HDMI screen sharing.

I was ok with the price. My wife OTOH ...

Here is the bypass instructions, this keeps the HU from locking out features that are disabled while the vehicle is in motion (like a lot of settnigs). The reason I did it - HDMI port can display while moving.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOk4fXL0XBU

Access to the HDMI port? I use this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NZNPHH5/

I just have the USB port on that for charging (hooked up to this behind the dash - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08RBWX2GL )

I did that initially with a TiVo stream hooked up. But I realized that was an unnecessary extra step. The iPhone HDMI adapter works great.

    Center console organizer.
These head units are able to use our truck's microphone... or do we have to run a separate microphone to be able to "talk" to it?

Currently will need to use the Kenwood mic. I pulled my OEM mic and installed Kenwood in that location.
But idatalink is supposed to release a new integration piece which may allow it to integrate.
