    Hi all,
I'm just looking for a bit your thoughts on putting a monetary value on a 97 listed on bring a trailer. I'm looking g at both the red manual and the white auto. Both as listed with 28k miles. What would you expect the price difference to be between the two?
    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1997-toyota-tacoma-33-2/

    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1997-toyota-tacoma-30/

I currently own (and love) a 02 Prerunner but I'm looking for a 4x4 so I can have a little more freedom on how deep I can take it.
    Thanks,
    Sean

Ones a v6 auto the other is a i4 manual. Which do you want?

How much cash do you have at your disposal?

I want the white one. I'm just trying to figure out how much less I should expect it be go for in comparison to the red.

There is no flow chart to tell you an exact price with a 1st gen tacoma. Too many variables and wildcards even geography plays a role in the prices these trucks sell for.

The red one won't hit the # from the deadbeat bidder.
The white one will go for much more, despite being a four speed.

Quick guess, 18-20K on the red one. 25-30+ on the white one.

The white one is going to sell for more. The difference looks to just be the engine/transmission and the gauge cluster.

White is a V6 (worth more) auto (worth less) with a tach (worth more) and white is more desirable than red.

Other things to note, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure no 95-97 4x4 ever came with a black grill. Same with the paint matched bumpers, I think only step-sides ever had a paint matched rear bumper? And the painted emblem. Not saying these are bad mods, but anything that changes the truck from factory will lower the value at these collector-level mileages

The white one I would expect to see a $16-18xxx number.

Thank you for pointing that out. I'd try to get it back to original if I can snag it. I appreciate your knowledge and insight. I would much prefer the red manual if it was not for an injury that prevents me from driving a manual transmission.

I'll throw in the upper control arms from my 02 pre-runner. $15,750 is my wishful guess.

Red one seller said in middle auction they painted the grill and bumpers, I believe. In its 2020 auction you can see the original look of the red one. Altered bits lowers it's potential.

Red has a narrower color market. White one has a lot of exterior blems which will hold it back. No biggie for some buyers who want to actually drive it.

Both are ultra low mile so $25k is fair for either, imo. Maybe $25 is ceiling for both. I doubt either will get close to $30 as it is the V6, 5spd, TRD set up pulls the highest bids. Good luck!!

OP, you mentioned an injury. Without getting into specifics... have you sat in a 1st Gen with the split bench?
My '95 has the bench, and it's not exactly super duper comfy. It's held up amazingly for being 30 years old, but be aware that it's nothing like the contoured-ish seats in my '03. Or you PreR.

thank you! I'd probably have the clear coat repainted. I don't want to truck for collector value. I mostly just want a rig I can put lots of miles on and isn't already run down. Having value to resell if needed is just a bonus.

I have a really bad back and never even thought of that. I had a bench in my 98 but that was 20+ years ago and pre-injury. I still think I'll bid on it but only for value. The support of the buckets is definitely nice to have. The good thing about all this searching is that time seems to be on my side. My 02 fills my needs completely at the moment.

Red went today for $25k. I hope everyone who picked white to go for more is wrong.

Thanks for asking. I did not. I was on it up to 16k but didn't have to stomach to keep going after the stock market this week. Three weeks ago and I probably would have been bidding but not today after this week. I'll be sure to report back when I do finally get the truck I want. Until then, my eyes will be open.

just put in the ground work, set alerts on craiglist for the year and milage you want, and sooner or later you will find one for a third of the price as BAT. You'll probably need to be comfortable sending a deposit and flying halfway across the country (depending on where your located).

I'm not saying it's always the case with BAT, but i personally have seen cars in person that have sold on there where the owner/re-seller just put lipstick on a pig, and some clown with an open chequebook who doesnt know any better gets tricked.
