The cycling industry convincing people they need padded shorts is like the 4x4/overlanding industry convincing people they can't drive down a dirt road without installing mid-travel 2.5" reservoir shocks first.

Lots of little things feed into comfort on a bike. Body position, overall fitness, bike fit, saddle/handlebar anatomy.

Generally speaking, the more upright your riding position, the easier it is to be comfortable. On road bikes especially, lots of people want to "look fast" by having their handlebars much lower than their saddle. That's horribly uncomfortable if you don't have the fitness for it.

Padded shorts make a difference when you're trying to go fast but most people (ie, anyone who isn't racing/training/chasing performance gains) would be better off with a bike that's actually comfortable to begin with (which will probably be an MTB or hybrid, not a road bike) and then wearing whatever clothes they like.

I have no fitness but I cannot ride crotch rocket bikes because of that posture with feet way out behind and leaned forward with head tilted up, it's just a recipe for discomfort everywhere.

Ah maybe you're right. Wouldn't need the bar if you have stock shocks though so hopefully he figures that out. Also ever since doing that bracing my truck launches from a dead stop so much more reliably, it totally changed the dynamics of my rear setup.

If it's done well, that's a pretty solid deal too. It's times like these I wish I was more reckless with money, and had more off-street parking space.

i believe it, the frame rails are kind of wimpy without the reinforcement.

i still need to box my frame and relocate shocks but I noticed an improvement in handling with the TG bumper tying the rear frame together

Ok shit, I was sort of doubting the small backrest pad but it actually feels really comfortable

Seat bottom cushion itself is comfy AF, just need my footrest and then paint

Oh man it feels nice sitting on this fucker

I discussed this with someone else once, what do you think is more worthwhile? Plating the outer face (web) of the frame or boxing (creating another web). I was always skeptical of the improvement the outer plates over the stock web could have vs just creating additional stress risers where they're welded on.

Looks mint, what's the max height and lowest before you plant that threaded rod into the concrete?

    Goal was 22" to 29"

    Achieved, 22.5" to 30"

Once the footrest is welded on, and the base painted, I'll be sharing all the DXF files for free in my CAD/CAM thread.

    1" diameter ACME, yep

Went with 5 turns per inch which...now makes me wonder if I should've just gone 4 for faster height adjustment

so, take this with a grain of salt because i failed mech e

but assuming you’re adding the same thickness to box the inside or plate the outside, the boxed frame would have give you more torsional and lateral rigidity. in a boxed configuration the loads are more distributed across all face of the frame and youre cutting the force on stress risers that already exist more than plating alone

    something like that

(if it feels true, it is:luvya:)
