which adapter are you using for wireless CarPlay? I’ve seen a bunch on Amazon but seems like a toss up between it having issues or not.

The best thing of my 3rd gen is that it's paid off! Oh, and under 7,500 miles ;)

    Yeah, I know you're joking but, uh.....lol!

I was lucky to get the pricing I did for my TRD Bilstein 5100s...military discount...and the whole kit/kaboodle was still expensive.

Don't wanna think about how much more those other shocks cost...plus the maintenance/upkeep.

But, like you said...we are commoners!

Installed s new Road Active Suspension today. Absolute night and day difference. Added a cap and was carrying 200lbs in the bed and it was bouncing on top of the SUMO springs i added earlier. Truck is more planted, took out the sag and added 1 1/2 inches in the back. Feels like it did new with the empty bed. Highly recommend it if your squatting in the back.

Well now the problem is I know those expensive Bilsteins are an option for whenever I replace my 5100’s…

I am hoping to get over 60k miles out of the 8100s before a rebuild and I have a feeling when the front 6112 wear out they will be replaced with 8112. Shock rebuilding is only a few hundred dollars and I have 4 mountain bikes that need their shocks rebuilt every 100 hours of riding so I am used to the maintenance aspect of suspension.

A couple years ago I upgraded from OEM to Dobinsons twin tube shocks because my OEM ones were shot. And I have been kicking myself because I should have just spent the extra money to go big with 2.5 shocks.
    Buy once, cry once.

Would love an update once you get these on. I'd do the opposite, just the fronts and leave my rears alone, but I also cannot stomach the full set all at once lol.

I plan on making a thread about it once I get them installed.
Originally my plan was Dobinsons IMS up front with MRR in the rear but after watching Shock Value by Overland Outfitters on YouTube, I decided that for less money I can get a better ride with the Bilstein.
I went with 8100 in the rear because I carry a lot of weight on adventures, around 6000lbs gvwr, and wanted a shock that can handle dampening the extra weight because I want to go fast lol.

    BLUF. I don't know.

DISCUSSION. That's a good question that I didn't fully consider. Besides replying, "the loose nut behind the [steering] wheel", the only troubleshooting (which I like to refer to as easter egging) I did was replace the lower mounting bolts with PN 90105-14104. I had read, either on this forum or another on Tacomaworld, that others traced the noise to that bolt, saying the Tacoma one included threads where it went through the mount(s) and as the mount flexed the noise came as the mount/coilover moved on the threads. Well, that was $11.50 that didn't work out for me. The $800+ Bilstein coilover installation fixed it - somehow the Tacoma, mine anyway, seems to over-appreciate the adage "you get what you pay for". Overruminating, it could be that maybe the upper (3 each) coilover mounting bolts needed tightening, which was also achieved by installing the new ones <-- which may be your point, Sir.

I use this, works great for Android Auto.
    It's supposed to do CarPlay.

Takes about 20-30 sec to connect, but it's rock solid after that.

knock off TRD Pro taillights to replace a broken one. time will tell if they fall victim to condensation.

Whats the good bad and ugly of the 3rd Gen ? I know the trans with the 2016 but how has it evolved ? Good as the 2nd Gen? Better? Just curious what the gen opinion is? Sold my 2021, bought a new 21 Tundra, Thinking of getting another Tacoma, 2nd Gen or 3rd Gen.

20250228_153952.jpg No pics yet, but started my suspension install after work this evening. Components are as follows:
    Bilstein 5100 fronts notch #5
1/4" spacer to correct driver's side lean
    Freedom Offroad UCA's
    ECGS needle bearing replacement bushing
    Bilstein 5100 extended travel rears
Icon RXT leaf packs assembled at Option #2
    2.5° axle shims
    Extended rear brake lines
    Carrier bearing drop
    Yokohama Geolandar G003 255/85R16

Tonight I assembled the leaf packs at option #2

Going to try and do a little bit each night when I get home each night and then full court press this weekend to finish up.

I'll post pics when it's all finished up. Been deleting all the chrome since I got it last month.

Good points, haha. Reason I ask, is, I'm getting a clunk-like noise, and I'm trying to isolate it, but pressing up and down on tire while lifted isn't letting me replicate it. I'm starting to suspect the front top shock bushings, instead of the 3 coilover mounting bolts, my front lower already went bad so this would only make sense. I'll double check them again anyway. Glad you got your noise under control.
