Your factory torx is a T40
The security torx is a T45

My 3rd gen Tacoma screw wouldn't budge and I'm not inclined to try other stuff to loosen it. Does anyone want to buy this off of me?

If you want to try one last time ... some say that you take the tailgate off, put it ground, use a torque-bar that needs no adapter between bar and T40. Or not ... just saying "while it is in your procession".

I was one of the unlucky MF’ers where the T40 stripped. But I used a 1/4” drill bit to drill the head, and once it broke; I chiseled the head off and then hand threaded the bolt all the way through. Had to remove the plastic inner covers. Don’t mess around with extractors if this happens to you. Drill the head.

 

Have you made one with the color, “Solar Octane”? Is that color an option?

With this thread being pretty popular, wouldn’t a want to be thief just carry the special T45 bit and be able to remove in less than a minute?

 

They could but they want an easier target, not something that requires work and the possibility of the owner catching them in the act and socking them in the face.
