Hi All, new here. Have a 2005 base 2.7l. Rear bumper trashed. Thought bout buying this one. I'm kinda on a budget , wish I could afford an expensive bumper. This looks nice for price. Even if I have to do a few little mod/tweaks to it I'm ok with that. Thoughts ? anybody purchase ? Many thanks. Dan. https://a.co/d/ct2XRGw.

The truck that they have pictured on Amazon isn't even a second gen ... you get what you pay for, I'm sure it would fit but well? who knows. easily? who knows.
You could just buy a bumper cover off rock auto (OEM lookalike) and spray it with bedliner for a "rugged" look. Of course you miss out on some sweet lights and shackles to really scream " I off-road this :censored:"

    https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinf...zyqvGtpqMoLU1LP1xjXc0+4/sgh2Q1wG7tQtwAw0x0/4=

A whole lot cheaper and won't cause problems with your suspension. (the weight of a steel bumper is gonna cause sagging on the original leaf pack)
If you show some pictures of the rear bumper I could be more help.

The steel bumper is gonna cause sagging on the original leaf pack? I didn't think about that. I weighed my oem bumper with brackets - 37lbs. This bumper is 66lbs. That's 29lbs extra on the rear. You think would cause sagging? Thanks for the cover suggestion. Maybe I'll just buy this one its 37lbs. cause I have all the plastic covers etc. But the other looks cool! Hunt for a good condition original that someone has removed for a replacement installation.

You can shop in BST, DM any seller you find.

There have been a couple of threads on them, here's the one where I posted my experience with it (last post in the thread).
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/hooke-road-rear-bumper.601253/

After two years I'm still satisfied with it for what I paid even though some of the paint is flaking (I was wrong about the thickness of it); any rust spots I just hit with a wire brush and a shot of some crinkle finish spray paint. Like so many other other vehicles on the road, including Toyotas, the crappy factory paint has faded and is flaking on the hood and roof so it's not like I really care if the paint on the rear bumper matches exactly. I'd say it's as strong as the OEM bumper was, which isn't saying much, but it looks better (subjective) and is more utilitarian than the factory (easier to stand on and it has light cut outs already). It's nowhere near the quality of the ARB on the front. It's definitely easier to stand on when loading kayaks and stuff on the roof rack on my shell which is one of the things I wanted; the only thing I've done to it is added a Harbor Freight non slip pad to the area in front of the license plate to make it less slippery when wet or when wearing wet footwear (after paddling).

If you plan to beat it up off-road it is definitely not going to hold up. I don't rock crawl and don't do anywhere near as much off-roading as I used to so that's not a big concern. It does use the factory hitch which was more important to me and it looks better than the dented OEM bumper with flaking chrome it replaced. As noted in the other thread, do not plan on using the "recovery" points for anything other than tie down points. It's not an actual heavy duty off-road bumper so it's not likely to cause weight issues unless you're constantly near your weight limit anyways. I put it on by myself although a helper would have been preferable; I have an Old Man Emu suspension anyways so the weight wasn't an issue in my case.

An extra 30 lbs isn’t going to cause the springs to sag.

I went with a 4xinnovation bumper, had it galvanized, and then aerosol spray painted it. It still looks as good as when I put it on and I live it the rust belt. I did have some trouble mounting it to get it looking pleasing to the eye, but after a shim and a carbide burr, (rotary file), it looks good.
Yes. it was a little heavier than I needed, it made the rear end squat may be an 1/8 inch but the truck rides better. The rear end is not as bouncy.

Can’t imagine it’s very heavy duty, since when has that been a grade of steel anyways o_O

Seems like a waste of time and money.

    1. a used factory bumper (or even new) is cheap and functional

    2. for a steel aftermarket you would go high clearance with tree savers.

this can be obtained multiple ways.
-wait until somebody crashes into you this year. Which tends to happen in general. They will pay for it.
-look for a used one. But that means paying for it. Versus somebody crashing into you.

statistically, if a vehicle is on the road for a year, it is likely that at least one time somebody is going to hit it on the road or while it is parked.

up to you to notice the damage. I don’t know if I did as I bought my truck used and saw it as a truck.
However I did notice my stock bumper was straight. All of a sudden couple of months later it had a surprise dent. I did not hit anything. Indicating somebody had hit and run it in a parking lot, as some people do.

Well, I decided to (Bondo short strand). My OEM bumper. Bit of work. Will post finished product when complete. Many thanks or all the suggestions!
