JBL Flex Speaker Delete / Blank

Was told by a friend on the "other forum" that I should maybe post this here as well.

This has been a long time coming with a lot of reverse engineering involved, but I have created a blank replacement for the JBL flex speaker.

I also have some related inventions in the pipeline that are powered via the JBL dock.

I didn't really realize that other people might want something like this until recently. If you are one of those people they are available through my Etsy.

These are painstakingly 3D printed in high quality ASA plastic, they will be strong in any hot summer day temperature and stay the same color for years to come.

Please note any white marks in my demo photos are a side effect of ASA plastic when it cools and generates stress marks. In the final shipped version, these are post processed for a nice even colored top surface.

Nice, that's very slick design. Can't tell from the pic, what is the face made of? Is it cloth, solid plastic?

I found it on Etsy do you do the stickers as well, I’m looking for particular stickers in particular colors but don’t know how to contact the person, can you help placing my order now on the JBL cover

 

now that i am used to it, it sounds weird with the center speaker removed.

 

that sticker will be toast in the summer sun/heat.

Yes it is indeed a solid piece of plastic. The top face is textured best as possible to blend in with the texture of the dashboard

Unfortunately I am not the sticker guy, most people on Etsy making vinyl or stickers are either just resellers or have a Cricut cutter. There are no stickers involved here!

maybe a USB C power station with voltage gauges for powering tablet that would be on mount behind radio screen? i like where your going with this!

 

Like the replacement idea with just a speaker….the way it should have been from the beginning. Put that thing on the workbench in the garage where it belongs permanently.

 

Sadly there are some slight limitations as there is not a lot of amperage provided through the JBL dock. The dock itself is rated 12v 0.7 amps. You can push it a little higher but not much.

Pretty much anything you can charge from a 2amp USB charger would work, but no fast charging, no USBC power delivery, no iPad's, etc.

 

wonder if you can come up with something using the dock to just mount a speaker and then possibly tap into the wiring below it going to the radio to get a signal that will adequately drive it

 

That is a great idea, I love it.
They do sell a USB port that exchanges the empty blanks. That would work
