Been quiet in here lately. I need to review the local laws, but I am pretty sure that my truck will age out of emissions checks this year or next. I’m considering doing headers and a catalytic converter delete if that’s true….

Can anyone get me up to speed on a meth kit? I know there’s a few options out there.

To those who have replaced the fuel pump, isn’t there a gasket for the assembly? At the top of the tank? From what I recall when I replaced it on my ‘99 there is but I don’t see it in any parts diagrams.

Thanks, I will look it up and do some research. How are these installs typically?

What do you mean “how are these install typically”

To me, the install is straight forward. Hardest part is trying to figure out where you want to mount the reservoir, pump, and controller.

    @TashcomerTexas

I opted to fab a mount for the reservoir and pump in engine bay and have the controller mounted on the shifter bezel for easy access.

The vc50 makes spray adjustment on the fly.

That’s nice! My main question I guess is what is the upkeep on them/how often do you have to fill the tank? I’m still in the researching phase of methanol and its perks.

That depends on your partial and full spray (psi) setting on the controller and how heavy your foot is. I have partial spray at 5psi and full spray at 8psi in sequence with my URD 7th injector. On a side note, don’t waste your money on the 7th injector. Only reason I still run the URD is because I bought it thinking I won’t need the meth kit. When I drive in town, I usually turn off the meth or don’t even hit partial spray because I’m pushing 42” tires and is easy on the throttle. I do have a HSL steel 2.1 pulley.

I don’t boost much or drive much with the truck so I don’t mind refilling the smaller tank. I run a 75% M5 mix with 25% water

Appreciate the insight, that’s good info.

Guess we were in the same boat here. I’ve been running the 7th injector for probably over 5 years in the hopes of avoiding any pinging. I imagine it’s done what it’s needed to, but I’ve been running rich to where I had to cataclean a cat at one point.

I’m on a URD 2.2 and the truck has been reserved to a weekender for the most part nowadays.

if you’re not pinging under load, run the URD and don’t waste money on the meth. Especially if you’re a MT. I’m an auto and with the URD and when I was still on 35, the engine pings bad under load, especially when the auto trans is gear searching. Ran the meth kit and it helped, being at sea level. Then went to 40” and was harder to full throttle with heavy tires and beadlock. Now at 42s, I’m an old man driving.

@TashcomerTexas I drool over the kits that match fuel injection but I ended up getting the AEM water meth kit.

@02hilux that install is sick, I'd buy that bracket and snow kit in a heart beat just cause of the fitment.

I ended up installing the AEM pump below the battery on the wheel well metal- I just got a rivet thread chinga in to make it a little better. I bought a pre 01 Tacoma windshield water tank to be the tank and it looks OEM, I really like that. I also bought on ebay another level sensor for the AEM.

Controller is in the glove box, easy adjustments at red lights.

@02hilux in the top right of your engine bay pic you look to have the same add-a relay box I have, do you have brackets of the bracket as well? Mine is on the other side of the engine bay but now that I put the water tank there I'm game to relocate it and hot damn yours looks so OEM and clean with that placement.

Oh yeah, not clean but also installed a switch to turn the system off so if I'm out of fluid its not running/pumping dry. ("H2O on/off on the right, on the left is a remove Greddy EMU map switch mod).

    PXL_20250308_172223625.jpg

Greddy EMU map switch mod- desolder the board mounted switches, solder on wires to remote switch- can switch from "91" to "E85" fuel and ignition maps.

The cool thing about meth kits is you can literally just tap your windshield washer fluid and refills are $3/gal at most gas stations

Eventually I want to add one to my turbo/Haltech so I can run regular gas with it and save some $$

The fitment and real estate is a good point. With a compressor and blue sea going in mine I have to play around with where I want things now. I may get an airaid MIT and that’ll open up the p/s in the bay.

The bracket is literally 1/2” wide flat aluminum, bend to shape. I hate the look of random stuff being stuffed everywhere or having exposed wiring harness throughout the engine bay and cab. I like to keep the truck clean looking and original as possible. A pet peeve of mine.

Here’s my compressor placement. Yes, on 42 and still have cruise control and all the factory accessories.
