I heard on another form or on a YouTube video that one gets better mpg by disabling Traction Control.

Is this a myth or a false claim?

I only got 21 mpg or so on a recent 250 mile road trip.

Any other suggestions to improve mpg would be appreciated.

I will be changing the engine air filter very soon too!

^Traction control cuts power if wheel slip is detected during acceleration. It doesn't affect anything if you are cruising on the highway with no wheel slip. 21 mpg is pretty good for this truck. I have never gotten 21 mpg averaged over a tank in the past six years.

You're driving a brick with no aerodynamics. Be happy with your 21 mpg.

You have already found the cheat code, there isn't anymore to get.
PS yootoob isn't always right, traction control doesn't even engage unless there is a wheel speed difference (slip) which pretty much requires erratic driving or ice/snow.

The best way to maximize mpg on the highway is keep the truck under 60mph.
Personally I am happy when I get 17mpg, though one time on a road trip I got 23mpg at 75mph with an epic tail wind for 600miles.

OP's eulogy: "The truck could have saved him had he not disable his traction control to save gas. But at least he saved $8.42 in gas money last year, so he has that going for him".

Please OP, do us all a favor and turn your TC back on!

Based on Buck Henry's post, I will not fiddle with that TC button! LOL.

Update, I'm getting 22.5 mpg today. It is pretty windy down here in south Texas.

use your head and ask yourself how traction control could possibly affect your MPG, if you're unsure then ask yourself what traction control is on your truck and how it works.
All it takes is a little critical thinking. turn youtube off and think for yourself.

geeze, we're not driving mustangs here... pressing tc-off doesn't mean the truck wildly veers into pedestrians and yeets itself off a bridge...

whatever did drivers do before traction control?

    oh yeah, they controlled it.

honestly, i'm a touch jealous that the OP is even topping 20mpg. i average 12-15 on good days. but i have trouble with that whole rev range. i paid for the whole thing, seems a waste to only use part of it!

I recommend higher tire pressure for better gas mileage. And lower speed.

Smaller lighter tires higher tire pressure and go slower. Only way to improve it.

Traction control does not do anything unless there is a wheel spin. Wheel spin is a waste of gas. I have never seen anything better than 19MPG on the 3.5 mixed use.

Glad to report that I averaged 22.4 on my most recent trip. And, I haven't even turned TC off!!

I like to live dangerously so I might just hit that TC button by the rear view mirror and see what happens.

What if you turn on ect and turn off traction control. Infinite fuel glitch?
