I came late to the party, but happy birthday @Fargo Taco I hope you have a great day.

Couldn’t ask for nicer weather here..think I will go to the gun range. Downside of living in the city is that people frown at you for setting up a 200 yard range down the middle of the street. Hahaha

So let's say you find yourself needing a hole saw 1/2" smaller than the one you have...

Not a problem if you happen to have a table attachment for the band saw.

    20250405_144313.jpg

Final finish the size with a file.

    20250405_145904.jpg

Expand the center hole as needed with a Unibit, add a few pop rivets and done.

    Suggestion time:

I rebuild these mower decks often. In most cases they need new idler pulleys. The bearings are pretty low quality as well as the bearings only have a thimble of grease in them.

I can take the riveted pulleys apart easy by drilling out the rivits. Install a new bearing and weld back together. It's kind of labor intensive, but saves me $20-30. The bearings are only $4 each when you buy in bulk.

I'm experimenting by grinding down the bearing retaining lip and popping out the old bearing. Takes about 4 minutes to do this.

    My question:

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to rebuild the retaining lip.

This will save a lot of money and time.

I'm good with a MIG welder, so something that can be welded to the pulley then easily beat down onto the bearing race to clamp it secure is what I need.

I hope I've been able to describe what I'm looking for.

What about grinding from the two sides leaving a tab on both ends in the middle… bend up, insert bearing and then bend tabs back down?

Can't hurt to try. I'll give it a whirl tomorrow to see how rigid it is.

    Thanks!

Depending on what you’re using to cut, could possibly do quarters for 4 tabs if needed.
If you need to remake the retainer, consider using conduit and a steel pipe bullnose (rounded taper) or a swedge (size taper between sizes). Cut off what you need… weld. Ready to make more!

    That gasket was toast.

And started putting our left over roofing metal up as a ceiling in the garage.

I drilled the spot welds and replaced them with bolts & nylocks, probably didn't need all 8.
