What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Front doors done, on to the rear:


Kicker 2-way 6x9’s and DS18 tweeters. For the tweeters I cut the plug off the original tweeter and tied it to the new one, other than that everything was plug and play.

I couldn’t believe how cheap the original speakers were. Probably weigh less than a pound and look at that magnet.





Went with the triple layer of butyl deadener, closed cell foam, and mass loaded vinyl. On the door card I removed the foam block and layered closed cell form on the inside. The first door I tried to get as much coverage as possible and the three layers is way too thick for the door to go back together around the outside. Spent hours trimming everything back until the door would go back on. Don’t do this unless you’re only doing one layer:



The initial speaker impressions at that everything sounds so much more clear. I always had the treble all the way down because the stock tweeters are so shrill. These are very crisp and I highly recommend. I’m using a Sony head unit with 22 watts, with the new speakers I hope to add an amp down the road since they can handle 100 watts.

It was a direct fit. Still haven’t tried the controls.

 

Been a few days. But sold the 2015 Tacoma. Off to a good home.

Never had that happen and never heard of it happening. How exactly does the computer modeled system determine between a washable filter and a paper filter?

 

Because the MAF sensor gets coated with a light layer of oil with the use of the re-usable filters, and then fine dust particles adhere to that and end up messing MAF readings.

 

If you look a bit closer, I said "washable" air filter and changed the engine oil. Nowhere does it say anything about oiling the air filter.

K&N filters were developed in the late 60s. Lots of inefficiencies existed back then. Modern cars have computer modeled, flow tested, and properly sized and filters. Modern vehicles dont suffer from intake restrictions like old cars. It's not worth using poor filters in modern cars when paper filters work very well.

CAIs (cold air intakes) aren't performance enhancers anymore, they just sound nice.

Actually CAI CAN provide performance gains if you tune the car to utilize the extra air. Its best to use a CAI with an entire system (headers, exhaust, downpipes etc) to see better gains… otherwise you end up with a bottleneck and wasted HP gains and $. Keep in mind that a CAI system is different than just using a washable filter. In a closed system with no other mod’s, an “performance” filter is just going to let in more air only to bottleneck along the system. The ECU might be able to adjust the timing etc etc and small gains may be achievable at very high RPM but minimal at best. The BEFORE and AFTER on the dyno will tell the facts.

 

Took the 2014 for state inspection. Good news: it passed. The bad news: the quote unquote Toyota OEM tpms sensors i bought apparently aren't Toyota OEM tpms sensors. Oddly enough the tpms light being on isn't cause for a fail. On the way home I picked up a practically brand new General Grabber AT for a spare for 60 bucks mounted and balanced.
This afternoon I managed to get the passenger side of the back seat fully removed and a panel made to replace the seat back on the 2015. It will eventually get carpeted and the plan is to mount a dc-dc converter, a fuse panel and 2 bus bars to it.

 

Ok, fair point. They DO help. As long as you change everything else in the way it handles air, right?

 

Finally got the replacement relay installed and the anytime camera working. I need to clean up one bit of wiring and reinstall the dash pieces and radio.

(radio is just bolted in for testing purposes)

 

Pretty surprised considering 263k miles. Also almost about 175 compression

 

I changed out both my front and rear Diff oil today. I put that off for way too long it was pretty easy with the squeeze bottles of Valvoline.
