We are 6 weeks from the opener here. I'm pretty excited for the hunt that I won, although I think I'm gonna feel awkward being guided by someone. Also vi watched a Tom breed a hen in a front yard last week so they are already getting started here.

Seeing a few here and there. Won’t be long. Helped a friend set up a red dot last weekend and have a cousin needing help with same. So, getting to smell a little gun powder while patterning.

Well, thinking of calling it a career with turkey hunting. VERY tough to sit last fall due to my back. So, considering selling my newer Franchi Affinity 3 in 20 gauge and full Mossy Oak Bottomland camo. MAYBE a dozen shots at the most to sight it in, that is it. Had given my Benelli 20 gauge to my son, but I don't think he is ever going to turkey hunt again, so I would have that gun as a 'fall-back' if needed.
Not 100% sure on age, but only hunted with last fall for 2 or 3 days.
Also, unsure what to ask for it - I see new ones are around $1150 +/-. I also saw a used one go for less than $500 - there is no way I would sell it that cheap!!!

If anyone might be interested, let me know. I guess if it would need shipped it would be FFL to FFL?

    STOCK picture for now.....

    Screenshot_20250227-111658.png

I can take actual pictures if anyone is actually interested.

SORRY, I forgot about 3 days spring gobbler hunting 3 seasons ago. No shots tho.

Weird question, does a wild turkey taste anything like the store bought ones? I've had Canadian goose once and that was delicious red meat.

They can be fantastic and they can be horrible depends on environment and what they eat. Many years ago I shot one that was in a swampy area he had spent so much time in that muck that his legs were stained black. When I picked him up he had kind of a rattle to him. When I cut open his craw it was stuffed full of snails. I started to cook the breasts and the entire house smelled like mud I didn't even taste it i threw it in the garbage.

Not much like a domestic which is bred to have fluffy white breast meat. Wild is gonna be much leaner. Plenty of ways to cook them but we normally stick with strips/nuggets fried golden brown. Family event so everyone enjoys.

    Normally,no. Night and day difference.
    I prefer the wild variety.

    That sucks.
Never ran into that, but seems logical.

Black bear is the same. Had some that was great and some not so great. If they eat from a garbage dump...well. :humble:

I brine them for a day rinse then truss and slow smoke batting then in a honey hawaiian sauce and they usually turn out great. I also harvest the leg and thigh instapot with green chili sauce for tacos or enchiladas.

I was considering that break-open .410 Turkey gun as my next purchase. I cant find your for-sale ad.

how much? turkey down! yesterday and I am jazzed to fully immerse myself back into turkey hunting.

Thanks. Good luck on the hunt. Killed a big male yote opening morning and called in more than a few jakes. The Tom showed up yesterday afternoon. A good one for here, 19lbs. 10 1/4” beard and 1 1/4” spurs. We have a draw hunt this weekend in the eastern part of state.
