She had already made amends in her eyes, and didn't want to rehash it. That part was my fault, but I wanted closure; I still don't know exactly what the fuck it is that I said.

My dad bought his 2018 GMC Yukon SLT used in November 2018, with like 8,200 miles. As of this post, it has just shy of 69K miles and has never had a noteworthy problem, at least not until now. My dad is in Florida on business, and went with a coworker. My mom needed to move the Yukon last night so we could shuffle cars around, and it wouldn’t start. The key fob locked and unlocked it, the lights turned on, the HVAC turned on, and the radio turned on. However, all it would do was click when the start button was pushed. This morning, it initially would no start, but after the umpteenth time it finally did. I took it to my mechanic, and he plugged in his OBD scanner, but found no codes. He replaced the battery last October, and that checked out fine. The starter also checked out, so I am at a loss as to why it behaved in the way that it did. It hasn't had any trouble since this morning, and my mechanic is attributing it to an electrical glitch...

The Push to Start button sends a signal to the BCM.
The BCM sends a signal to the ECM.
And the ECM sends a signal to the Starter Relay.
And none of that can happen unless the TCM say, "I'm not in gear".

Since you did get a click, I'd start with the "clicking" components.
The Starter Relay and the Starter Solenoid.
Yellow wire on the starter is the control wire for the solenoid.

With all that said, I'd wait and see if it happens again.
Way too much shit talking to each other on these new vehicles.
I'd leave it alone until it happens again. It's possible it was just a "glitch".

My grandmothers Rx450 will do the same thing some times.
Except it wont even click. Push the button a couple times and "bang" it starts.
Happens a few times a year........

Would the BCM show any codes on an OBD scanner?

Might not if the fault isn't present at the time of scanning.

In my job, I'm behind the wheel of hundreds of vehicles per week. My dad's Yukon is almost seven years old and nowhere near as bad as the rental cars I drive, which are model years 2022 to 2025 as of this post. The more newer vehicles I drive, the more I love my beloved silver shitbox even more! None of this electronic crap to break!

Basically what I was going to say. Sad as it is sometimes you just can't get that closure, but you've tried.

I know GM had a lot of glitches with the PassLok system when physical keys were a thing, I wonder if that has carried over?

It looks like the Yukon is headed to the dealer; I drove it to work yesterday so Amanda could have the Tacoma (my parents are in Florida). It started right up, but when I got home, the stereo remained on and picked up my phone despite the vehicle being turned off. At one point, the person I was talking to was still coming through the speakers despite the Yukon being shut off. As stated above, it got a new battery last October and the starter is fine.

My truck will still maintain the call even if the ignition is shut off. Now if I open the door the call will switch back to the phone.

The original Passlock was a joke. The fix was to wire in a resistor and use an any cut key you wanted.
The new system is totally different. It’s digital.

Read a few tales of it back then but fortunately never flared up with my Colorado..it just puked cam solenoids, U joints, and finally the goddamn engine.

There are some relays that hold power for a set time after you shut the vehicle off for things like the power windows, my headlights stay on for about 30 seconds before powering down.

Didn't you have to replace the entire cylinder head at 70K miles?

Valves went and ruined the head. I want to say valve seals/guides were the root.

I watched a guy on YouTube change the timing chain on a very low mileage Colorado, when he held the new chain against the old it was almost unbelievable how much the chain had stretched, looked like 2 completely different sizes!
