I'm almost done redoing my headgasket job for the 2nd time. Not sure why the last one didn't take but oil samples were coming back with coolant in the oil. Couldn't tell by looking at it though.

I've started to focus on things that do not require much money to enjoy. For one I'd like to pay off my mortgage in less than 15years and two teaching my 5 year old that you don't need to constantly be buying things to enjoy life. Sure I'd love to put a stand alone ecu in my shitbox and turn up the boost but for now as long as it can get me safely from a to b I'm happy.

Put a reman'd head on which I would just pony up for an OEM next time. The old head was cracked in the spark plug hole. Drove 6k miles across the country and back, took an oil sample and it had coolant in it. I knew I was losing coolant very slowly but figured it was an external leak somewhere I couldn't see. Used an aftermarket headgasket so hoping an OEM one gets the job done. Installed headstuds also.

 

Not much to do in trucks for free. Haha even maintenance costs money.

I'd love to pay my mortgage off but God damn that would be painful to do. Probably could barely eat ha

One of the reasons why I do audio work(fun and I've invested in it a lot and do get paid something) and gaming.(major cheap scape for games. Never buy new. Only sales. And I bet I buy a game a year if that and give me a LOT of fun back in return.)

Been trying to finish my garage to make working on things better. But ..yeah. Going slow. Hopefully the nicer weather inspires more action. And I can keep affording it.

If you can swing double PMTs and apply the 2nd to just the principal, the amount of interest you save is crazy in the long run. Keeps you from being cash poor by paying out a huge lump sum just to pay it off

 

Yeah I know. But my mortgage is $3000 a month. So doubling up that is not realistic.

I can probably do 1.5 extra payments a year towards the principal and that'll cuts some years off. But not much. And right now probably not worth it as I'm not even sure if we will be in this house in the next few years. There is a small plan that if possible we'd move back towards Powell to try and have a kid and be closer to my parents to have help.

But no idea if that's possible.

It's a valid point. Many ways to beat the system, but peace of mind of not having a bank pmt is worth it imo though. Also owner financed the buyer of my last place cause I owned it and spread that income out over the long run.

 

Found some great hiking just 15 minutes from the house. Great weather for it too. New lens works well too.

 

Maintenance is sort of a requirement not a want.

A warm garage definitely helps with motivation. I've got a diesel torpedo heater that heats mine up quickly but the fumes aren't pleasant.

As far as I know the old was original. Made it to 300k. I don't think the cracks in the plug holes were causing any issues but the gasket had failed.

We're on a truck forum... I come here to get away from all the political bullshit on all the other social media I use. It's literally against forum rules to discuss and with good reason. I'm not saying ignorance is the way just that this is not the place for it.

Having parents close is an immense help. It's a bit of a relief for me the few times mine visit each year.

I can see that perspective and do contribute to a high yield account but I'd rather be done with a mortgage as soon as I can. The long game doesn't appeal to me much since who knows if I'll make it there to enjoy it.

 

Its been rough to find anywhere that stays completely politics free. Least everyone here keeps in more or less civil unlike most places that instantly turns into name calling and crap. Even the Sounders specific places i go to talk about post game stuff or during the match half the time turn political for no damn reason.

im the same way. High yield has been hardly "high yield" the past 15 years minus these past 3 years. It was what? 1% or less for almost 9 years before hitting like 2% right before covid? Now of course there were other options that did pay a bit more..CD's/bonds but even those were pretty meh. Of course you had the stock market which is where we put most of our money instead but even that has its own risks. (its worked well for us but definitely not for everyone)

 

New pup is doing well. I think we pushed him a bit with a 2 mile hike today, he has been pretty well zonked after the fact. But he has gone from not trusting humans to being quite fond of them, and friendly with strangers. He is attached Venice at the hip. Hell in the hike V and I walked about 20 yards away and he got very vocal and was pulling hard to rejoin us. Getting better in the potty training, still not perfect though. He has things he doesn't like but in general is very chill. He came a long way on the first month so hopefully month 2 we get the same level of gains. Pretty excited to see how he does on the trip.

I know this thread isn't where I belong but it's probably fine.

I gained a lot of respect for Great Pyrenees this winter, had to work with 2 of them doing their jobs that got caught up in a situation set up by me, both handled getting out of it with zero aggression and both of us walking away healthy. I definitely be shy around them anymore when they decide to hang around the office throughout the winter with the sheep herders.

 

So far, amazing. He adores Venice, and his playmate is a pug. He is super gentle with her. All the dogs at the dog park he has gotten a long great and tried to play with, so I have no worries about him. He is just a happy puppy.

They are a different breed for sure. A lot of similarities to my last Pyrenees, but some big differences due to his short past we suspect. I have no doubts he will be loyal to me, and I'll socialize him plenty to be good with people and dogs, but he is gonna be big, close to 100# and knowing the breed, gonna have to keep an eye on him so he doesn't develop bad habits.

As with other dogs, depends on how they are raised, I'm sure he will be fine. I doubt the ones I handled this winter saw much more than the sheep, the herders and other working dogs. They just stepped in the wrong place before the animals that was supposed too

The state line is only like 45 minutes, but this thread has its regulars, I pop in and read once in awhile.

I've got some takes on other topics that have come up recently, as an environmental person in the O&G industry they might be different, but another time another place, maybe.

 

I'll say it again and again. "Some takes" / "other takes" / "different opinions" / whatever we want to call them - are always welcome in my book (within reason, I suppose - I'm not going to welcome an opinion that women are less than men, etc., - though even in those cases, I'd probably just disengage). Discussions around them (wherever those take place) that are respectful, thoughtful, and where people are actually conversing are healthy and we need more practice having those discussions in society today.
