Was out exercising the truck for the last week in the Daniel Boone National Forest. Had a lot of fun, some trails took some serious damage from the hurricane. Five of the seven of us bailed out a day early after the storms went through early Thurs. morning. We figured with all of the rain, streams would be up too high and the mud too bad. Turns out, the two that stayed, abbreviated the route that was planned. I had slipped in the mud on Mon. (twice) and wrenched my back real bad. It was finally getting better by Wed. night and I didn't want to take any chances slipping again.

    Afternoon all:

Welcome @siderman, as Ken said, good group on here, but they do get grumpy when the new guys don't fill the cooler

Tough fishing for the first day of trout season today, buddy and his girlfriend both got limits of 5, I could only manage 4 but had 6 others hooked that got off, we had to really work for what we got. The larger one is a tiger trout, only the 4th or 5th one that I ever caught.

Very cool. I’ve caught every kind of trout imaginable but never a tiger trout. In fact never heard of them before. Looks similar to a brook trout. Nice catch.

They are a sterile hybrid between a brown and a brook trout, thus the brook trout similarity. When I first caught it, it had really pretty colors but lost much of them after being in the bag creel.

    Nice fish!!

I have caught small golden trout in the high Sierra ca 1978. We brought our poles backpacking. Caught most kinds of trout- most memorable was Yellowstone lake large cutthroat. Good eats!

Anyway I’m beat. 72° at the house. Fun power wash day. Ugh

Lastly I blew my right wrist up yesterday. Hertz like hell

I’ve caught goldens in the past high up in the sierras on backpacking trips. They are beautiful. All were kind of small. I released all that I caught, they were too beautiful and I just couldn’t keep them. Good memories.

In the Nineties I lived/worked close to Carson City, so Tahoe area, and heard there were Golden up a (Rubicon?) trail west of the lake. I had chances to go while I had the youth and energy to... and procrastinated. I doubt I'll get another shot. But I'm going camping up by Mirror Lake Utah and there's a Murdock Basin area right around there that is supposed to have them. If it's not too much of a walk, maybe...

Never fished Yellowstone lake but I use to backpack/trout fish the Absoroka Beartooth wilderness in Montana and caught many large cutthroats there. One lake (dont remember the name) it was basically cast and catch. Every cast almost was a cutt. More good memories of fishing with friends who have passed.

I remember back in the early 80's on a 2.5 week long Back packing trip in the High Sierra's on the John Muir trail . Fishing in the many alpine lakes and catching alot of Golden Trout

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/trout catchers. A long long (LONG) time ago we had a neighbor in a apartment down the hall who was a demon with a fishing rod. He'd come home with more fish than his family could eat. We got the extras, including trout. That was pretty nice.

We've been having a pretty wet start to April, which is good because our water tables are low and there have been burn restrictions in place for months and months. Most of the rain has occurred overnight which is very thoughtful of it. One neighbor whose well stopped pumping water about six weeks ago decided to give it another try this morning and, voila, it is pumping again! Hopefully it is back full time which will save her $15K for a new well. :fingerscrossed:

Nice catch Carl. Looks like a few dinners in the freezer.

Good morning. Cooked up some chicken thighs yesterday. Tried a new, to me, process and the thighs were flavorful and juicy. I am doing well and PT is winding down. April 15th should be my last day at the PT center but not at home. We cut back to I set of 12 exercises over 2 sessions a day. Beats all 12 exercises twice a day. I have mor mobility than I have had in a long time. I am concentrating on going up and down stairs along with getting up from a chair.

    Couple of chicken pics.

Travir: Our doctors are good, but the system is flawed, IMO. They get paid by sheer numbers of patients, not results. We had to be pests to squeeze out any info, then do a lot of research on our own. It can be done. Some drug companies also have incentives, and new drugs come out all the time. Good luck!
