La Bohn Gap and La Bohn Lakes in 10 hours. You hike to the far end of Necklace Valley and then basically hike straight up a waterfall 1,000 feet to a shelf on the side of Mt Hinman.

View looking south from the Gap. You can see Chimney Rock and Summit Chief. Dutch Miller Gap and the headwaters of the Snoqualmie River are down there too

I was getting after it on my splitboard early season.. but mostly riding chairlifts since the resorts opened

Just this afternoon coming back from the ski hill I stopped to let the dog run around by the river and saw these tracks right on the river bank.

Looks like Black Bear (5 toes)

    20250217_131506.jpg

And I'm guessing Cougar? 4 toes and 3 distinct lobes on heel pad

    20250217_131641.jpg

All sharing the same watering hole spot

The 5-toe tracks were everywhere. I followed them along the river bank for a while, he was just cruising along..

Went to Goblin Valley, Horseshoe Canyon, Orange Cliffs, and back to the Canyonlands' Maze District last month with @bot102. Nothing too crazy distance or elevation wise, but the last hike we did in the Maze was to some pictograms we'd been to a couple years ago but from the opposite direction, and ended up being shorter but more technical than expected. Tons of fun, regardless.

    Beautiful

I haven't been hiking much lately. That'll change in a month or two when the trailheads start to melt out

I just went up to 9K today to have a look. I'm so stoked for this alpine season. It's gonna be a few more weeks before the melt out but it's gonna be an early start this year.

This thread really drives home how hard I fucked up moving to SoCal for the hiking in 2018. Should have gone up to WA.

I'd charge him double for the second. My faith in humanity was shattered decades ago so this does not surprise me one bit. lol

According to the article, both were free. Which begs the question of: Did he go up there a second time to search for his cellphone and other gear thinking "all pros, no cons?" IMO, they absolutely should be charging him double for that second one.

Down here at the ski hill, at the BC access points have huge signs that say MINIMUM $1,500 FINE FOR ANY RESCUE INITIATED ON YOUR BEHALF BEYOND THIS POINT. They'll also post avy scale for that day, ski patrol phone number, etc.
Some of the gates have a flashing light that picks up your avy beacon as you walk by, all in full view of the patrol shack. They can turn you around if they don't see a beacon check flash green.
At Mt Baker you'll get vibes in the lift-line just for not having a backpack on. Up there, if you duck a rope or try to sneak by a beacon check point they'll clip your pass and throw you out
