Have you let your truck cool off enough to be well under 95 degrees? It won't go into check mode if your truck if your truck is to warm.

Yes I thought of that as well. The truck is cold. I let it sit, and the outside temperature here is cold right now as well.

You’ve got to buy the tacoma PID from within the app if i remember correctly. If you already did and it’s still not there you might need to update the app

Fast and accurate way is to get phone based OBDII app.
I would recommend fusion obdII and BT adapter that works with you phone. You can get it running as soon Amazon delivers the adapter.
    Will cost you $30-40
Make sure to turn off all loads to have a stable idle.
Other way is to get Techstream. The process of jumper pins happens in Techstream, but you still need to move the stick.

Just wanted to circle back and thank everyone for the tips . I ended up buying a cheap Bluetooth OBD2 plug in for about 25$ then the upgrade (to be able to read transmission temp) was also about 20$. I borrowed a temp gun and when the app said it as at 96 the gun was almost dead on as well. I was able to get this job done finally. Good thing too, I was a quart low.
    Thanks again
