    As the title states...

After putting some miles on the truck after all the front suspension was replaced, I have a rotational noise that starts immediately when hitting the gas from a light. I can hear it a little while driving but when I hit the brake to slow down, I can hear it. But Im sure its there as Im driving. I have all new wheel bearings, cv axels, upper and lower control arms, links, lbjs, you name it, its new.

The noise sounds kinda like bad wheel bearings, the tires were shot, it’s getting those replaced as I write this. I don’t think its tires though.

This noise was not there before all this, so what do you guys think?

Did the dust shield get bent?

Hopefully it's something easy, that's the first thing that comes to mind. It's easy to bend, I usually tweak mine when I'm messing with the front end.

Got to be some witnesses marks from the rubbing somewhere on the RR’d parts

I can definitely relate to all this, with 'new parts' and a 'new noise' that was not the norm prior to replacement to investigate
...it has been nearly a long while 'the odd noise' started and it still there coupled with some 'other noises' from yet 'other new parts' replaced

Let's start with those replacement CV axles
What brand did you put on? What was the issue with the old/original ones?

@Black97v6MT, I went with the NAPA Golds that come with a lifetime warranty. The old CV's had torn boots and were original to the truck, 254k miles I kept the old ones to possibly rebuild, I know theres that company in the Denver area that rebuilds those.

As far as the brake shield suggestion, it doesnt sound like that. I know what that sounds like being in collision repair, the sound Im hearing is more of a bearing, mechanical sound. Not a rubbing type sound either.

I am pointing my finger at those napa axles
Same issues here after the OEM axle boots ripped on my taco around 325k flinging grease over all the place
Remanufactured Toyota axles were not available at the parts store
Needed new axles quick for an already scheduled long trip out of town, not much downtime to hunt down a reboot kit then
Threw some of those Napa axles on and then had a new humming noise from somewhere up front, most noticeable at highway speed
Then I happened upon some chatter on one of those DiY utube channels from a seasoned mechanic from NY stating napa axles are pure junk, especially on Subarus iirc

Hopefully you're ripped OEM axles did not lose ALL the grease and get mud water or other junk inside them

There is also some chatter on TW that I recall having read about the quality of Toyota CV axles vs the aftermarket replacement junk

Perhaps @turbodb has some input on this matter, I have been trying to get at rebooting my originals from his detailed tutorial on the process

I’m thinking that could be the problem too. I’ll find out soon.

The mechanic is thinking the front diff, which would piss me off, I swear I didnr hear that sound before

Napa and these mechanic partsshops will Deny it being the axles LoL
Napa has very good quality parts I was told again and again
But they are not the ones driving the truck, are they!
Only one way to find out I suppose is to get the originals put back on and see if the odd noise goes away

So having the rear end gone through on my truck has been on my to do list since I started this project, part of the suspension rebuild. Ive had the Yukon rear gear set, (Part # 14236) sitting here for a couple weeks.

The rear axel bearings are toast, they whine, growl, and make a bunch of noises. The mechanic has me convinced thats where this noise is coming from, that repair is next.

I could have sworn it was coming from the front, but it could be resonating throughout the truck.

    So we'll see......

How did the mechanic come to this determination?

Well, I’ve known about it for a few years. I had a mechanic friend that worked at Toyota say that the inner bearings sounded like they were going out after I had them check the compression on the engine. I had the fuel injectors replaced after the compression checked out.

Shortly after, I parked the Toyota and bought an F150. The Tacoma has been rarely driven in that time, but I had the mechanic who does sublet work for my shop drive it and verify the previous mechanics concerns before I started with replacing everything. Right now I’m comfortable with the diag.

And, Im ready to get that last repair done on the Toyota and sell my F150.

Earlier, we had the Toyota on the lift and I cant hear the front, (if I even did in the first place). They went through everything, retorqued everything to spec, did another alignment. Rear end needs to get completed and then we’ll reassess.

I would jump in the bed and hang my head over each rear wheel while you are driving
That’s if you’re in Sugar Land TX!
