I never had a roommate situation that ended well, always couldn't wait to get out of the situation after a year or less. Unless you count living with a spouse/SO...that's worked out for the last 8 years for me lol. Maybe sex is the answer idk

I think this depends on the type of roommate it is at the start. If you are good friends before and know what to expect out of the situation then it's fine. I had a friend that I moved in with when I was 18/19. We had no issues during or after we stopped rooming and went on different paths.

    Good friendship helps for sure

Lived with a good friend when I was kicked out (stayed at his place with his parents) before we both decided to better ourselves, get jobs, and rent a place.

This was all during high school too.

I think the dynamic has changed a lot. I could afford living on a sub $10hr job and still have a fulfilling life. I lived paycheck to paycheck but I could still pay my own bills and modify my car/bikes. I never felt trapped. I don't know what kind of mindset one must have in today's scenario. In my day it was always just a short term situation one must do in order to save and buy a house or find a mate and help each other through life. I think people now are forced to room too long and the little things start to become unbearable for someone who isn't your soulmate.

While I do agree to some extent that people now are well...let's just say different. A lot of people just don't want to hustle though and play victim.

It is also much more expensive though, especially in the US.

I lived alone for years whenever I was single.

Well, I was only single when I was 19 and was married at 20 so I never had that struggle. But I would have chosen to live on my own in the smallest $400 apartment I could get. That same apartment now is $1400. My mortgage is only $1200. I know the struggle is there and worse than before.

Yeah its miserable out there. I have no idea how most people are making it.

My houses lease is up in a couple months, and without the ex chipping in for the houses rent, options are basically pay $1600+ for a 1bed apartment or find a roommate.
Everyones fucked, and its only going to get worse

Plus you can get laid off on a whim nowadays to appease the shareholders or whatever. Idk what all these laid off tech workers are doing; it’s hard enough to make it when you’re employed..

I found a nice 1 bedroom with wood floors right on Main St for $810 plus electricity and wifi. It is kind of an old building from the 40s or 50/, but seems like pretty solid quality. My current place is $680 divided by two, but it’s kind of a dumpy student living type place.

When I was growing up there were movies like The Fly and Quicksilver where the main character lived in an industrial loft. I don't know what the price actually was for a place like that then but I always wanted something simple like that. I guess that's why I could live out of my garage no problem.

there's a lot of industrial loft-like places like that in downtown LA, had a bartender buddy that lived in one. Spent many a night crashed out on the concrete floor lol. Probably explains my lower back pains

I stayed at a beautiful apartment in Cincinnati while driving through. IMO that’s an underrated city.

One of the regular models I work with in our photo studio has done some TV acting and started doing that celebrity website Cameo for some side money, where you pay a few bucks to have them send you a personalized greeting and stuff. She told me she cancelled her account after a few weeks because she was inundated with dudes begging her for feet pics.

well its under water right now....

but its still on a revival path, there is still a ton of not quite gentrified - only a little abandoned space thats very cheap.

there was a TON of abandoned spaces for years that you might not have wanted to stay at.
