I purchased a used MaxTrax mount from a forum member. The mount was made by our very own @supralee. After installing it, I wanted something to make it a bit more difficult for someone to steal the boards.

So, I came up with an idea, and had a custom 2 foot security cable made. I already had the brass padlock. Nothing is foolproof, and it won’t stop a determined thief. However, it should stop the average Walmart parking lot scumbag from walking off with them.

In addition, if they ever did bounce loose, they won’t fly out of the truck on the highway or trail. Figured I’d share with the forum incase anyone had a similar setup and was looking for ideas.

    I like it.

I mounted mine in the same place with mount supports I made myself attached to the factory bed rail track I added incorporating a standard bolt mounting system to attach the 2 boards. No need for a security system on mine, I have a hard bed cover.

The front track is just a Toyota factory part you can get from your dealer or on line from a dealer Like I did. It uses the existing fasteners in the bed, takes about 10 minutes at the most to install.

I’m not using a front track. Instead I’m using the mount designed and sold by member @supralee. See the links I posted above if you’re interested.

Little update. I picked up a set of Relentless Fabrication’s brackets to be able to mount a couple sets of Quick Fists for securing a shovel and axe.

However, I wasn’t satisfied with how the shovel was fitting. The shape of the shovel was causing the blade to make contact with the side of the bed.

So, I found a company called Built Right that makes stainless steel risers for the Quick Fist clamps. Notice how the risers on the bottom set of Quick Fist clamps push them further out than the top set. Now, the shovel fits perfectly, doesn’t touch the bed, & the axe fits perfectly behind it without making contact with each other.

Also notice how the handle of the shovel is secured with the anti-theft cable that also secures my MaxTrax boards. I love it when a plan comes together!

So, I did something similar inspired by supra's bracket but added to it. I made a piece to hang it, but added a steel bracket at the bottom of each corner and mounted it to the bed drain hole. The bracket has a threaded hole up high. I then ran an eye bolt through the board and it pulls the board tight at each end. Prevents bouncing and coming loose from my hanger in addition to also having more tie down points. I then also run a security cable through the board, one eye bolt, and bed tie down like above to prevent walk offs.

And I also run the cable through an ax and shovel like above... similar minds!

You're in PA? That lock will become permanent after one winter. Change it for something weatherproof like this, or carry bolt cutters... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009S5Y90K

I had the same issue with my Relentless mounts, I just rotated the shovel so the concave part of the shovel head is facing the side of the truck bed instead of away from it.

Interesting point to consider. However, I must say, I’ve had brass locks on property gates and outbuildings for years with no issue. I occasionally give them a shot of oil and they’ve always worked perfectly. I will definitely keep an eye on it. Thank you.

When I tried that, due to the way my shovel is shaped, the handle was too far away from the Quick Fists. If I had forced it to fit, then the point of the shovel would’ve been digging into the side of the bed. I’m picky and couldn’t like it, so I went with the Built Right risers and it solved all the issues.
