Door seal TSB

It's more of a creaking sound. And yeah, we know what we're hearing.

 

It's been several months since I installed the revised seals. Thought I would give a final update.

The new seals aren't that much quieter than the old ones as far as the squeaking goes. I've gone back to applying Sil-Glyde to them. This product works great. Problem solved...no big deal.

However, they completely eliminated the cross-wind howl or "kazoo" sound. And the overall wind noise is down as well.

I spend some time every day on the highway. So solving the howl was important.

 

I just installed the new door seals and that part was easy. Reinstalling the 10mm bolt on the passenger side for door-checker to the A-pillar went in ok. Problem is on the driver side I snapped the bolt like a dumb ass. Anyone know the part number for the bolt? You will notice the doors are a little harder to close but so far no kazoo noise on the highway and it sounds quieter.

I have no idea the bolt number. If it were me, I would simply go to Lowe's and pick up a stainless steel bolt and washer and call it a day

 

I spent last Friday down at the Larry H Miller Toyota in ABQ after they agreed to do the service at no charge fixing the defective designed seals per the TSB. Once I got there Toyota stated this would be an added $550 to fix the kazoo noise I've lived with since buying the vehicle new. Toyota advocate supported the NON support. Seems that Toyota "Quality" and supporting their customer base is now a thing of the past.

 

You're being dramatic. The fix for this issue is literally some foam caulk backing rod you can buy at Home Depot for under $10. You just stuff it into the seal along the front door slant and noise is gone.

 

Great pic: Now i understand. Looks like there are a total of four seals along there (maybe 5?) with the addition of the tubing? No wonder the noise stops. I've never heard this noise on my 2014. Dunno if the TSB applies to that year or if it has already been done in the past before I got it, but I'll be doing this mod this weekend unless it's snowing again here.
