Is sound deadening worth it?

My 04 standard cab is noisy enough I crank my stereo louder than I'd like much of the time. Since I have two small holes in my carpet I was thinking of replacing it with one that has sound deadener as an underliner. So I was thinking of sound deadener in my doors and whatever else is worth doing. Comments appreciated. Amazon stuff any good?

My last question was about my washer fluid filler tube being cracked. I did the fiberglass patch. Very crude, but effective. Thanks. And my BakFlip bed cover is perfect.

Link just goes to Tacoma accessories.
Very much worth it, I replaced the water shield in my door with sound deadener and that alone made a big difference.
When I replace my carpet the floor is next.
I used this stuff, pretty easy to work with and it's stayed on in the Tucson heat.

I literally just did the project with the Amazon stuff this week, you need to add the open cell foam on top for best performance. - it made a pretty stark difference for freeway noise, but I did a lot of deadening following: https://adventuretaco.com/guide/sound-deadening-a-1st-gen-tacoma-materials-and-prep/ material outlines for a "great job". I do think it was a lot of work and I'd budget more time than you think you'll need. It took me probably 10-15 dedicated hours, but I also put in new speakers/tweeters and a sub.

I did a pretty heavy job on just my doors and didn’t notice much of a difference. Maybe slight. I feel like you’d have to do the whole cab and doors to notice a considerable difference.

When I did my interior I pulled out the carpet, headliner, rear backer, and door panels. I don't remember the thickness, but it was Kilmat. Redid padding for the carpet and headliner, it was instantly noticeable when going for a first drive after everything was reassembled. Less road noise, quieter engine/transmission, audio sounded a little better too.

The stock carpets have a layer of deadening material, can't comment on if more is better. You can find them on Fleabay for under $200.

Look here. :-D The neck doesn't come separately, even on aftermarket ones. Rockauto, Fleabay, Amazon has these, just determine if it has the cold weather package/level sensor, that one has an extra hole in the bottom for the sensor.

Do it with the Amazon stuff. I can notice the only noise now are the lifter tick and the air noise from the weatherstripping. My truck can keep up with the heat outside now that it is insulated.

I used Siless sound deadening and the other product they offer - mid grey looking stuff(not the aluminum lined sheet):

Let me save you a ton of time.

The majority of the noise comes from
    - windows/seals
    - doors/seals
    - firewall via bottom of dash
    - shift lever cover/plastic

Filling any cavities/gaps will have exponentially more impact than any sound deadener

    Not totally true.....
Ive got to vehicles that are heavily sound deadened & can crank the living bejesus out of the sound system, & can barely hear it outside the vehicle...
My past vehicles with no deadener, lesser sound systems, you can totally hear the sound travel through & out the doors....
it does have a substantial positive effect & worth the little bit of time invested from my experience...

    but everyone has an opinion...

I also have over 10 years fighting noise in this truck

Edit: I think you misinterpreted me. It's not that deadening won't help, it's that your time and money is better spent if you have pre-existing issues

    Lol

Not only do I have butyl based deadener, I also have tar paper, open cell foam, mass-backed carpet, and acoustic foam on the headliner. Want to keep going?

I'm getting sucked in, I think.

I just did my doors and behind the bench seat based on the feedback I got here. I think I'm going to do the floor too. My carpet has two non obvious holes in it, and you know how that can grate on you. If I'm going to take the seat out for carpet, why not deaden the floors too? The stereo sounds so much better and from the two or three miles I did on the freeway, I didn't need to crank the volume. I imagine it is diminishing returns though. It is still a truck. From all the newer car horror stories, I'm happy to have my 21 year old standard cab Tacoma. Look at the paint closely and you can see the many brush scrapes and little dings. From 50 feet, it looks perfect. I'll never worry about hauling some gravel or going to the dump, and the four banger five speed fits my needs perfectly. Since I'm 74, it will surely outlast me. And the previous owner put old school US Mags on it. Icing on the cake.

    So, up next, carpet.

I might have gone overboard with replacing dash lights. Only two were out. I shotgunned it with OEM bulbs. But really, I may have spent three medium car payments om my truck, by far the bed cover was the biggest expense.

So what did you end up using for product?
    Assuming the AMZ Basic?

Product matters too & the quality, he mentioned butyl based deadener & tar paper.....
I think the product with the thick layer of foil over the butyl is more effective...

Glad you distinctively noticed an improvement as you should......

Let me get this straight. You're basing your success on quieting road noise you hear when the present stereo is "cranked" as opposed to another different stereo "cranked"? What is that proving? It's like apples to golf-friggin-balls!
Doesn't anyone else hear how ridiculous that arguement is? Why is anyone listening to this guy?
It's not rocket science. The peel n stick sound deadener is more of a panel stiffener and stops the sheet metal from vibrating and conducting sound. An air gap or foam/ cotton pad is going to absorb sound that gets through. Obviously, holes anywhere are a zero resistance entry for sound and should probably be the first target. Add all this stuff together and you'll get a better result. Why are you overthinking this? I think there's just a certain type of guy that sees that foil stuck all over something and gets an erection and thinks it's automatically the be-all end-all, especially because it can be expensive.
