Other markets and indices are similar. Same as we were in April of 2024 and after that there is no comparison.

Even affordability of life is still better (sorry 5 year chart wouldn't generate - you got 4).

Things are hard. Inflation is a struggle. The economy and GDP are all hard to manage, harder to understand and a moving target. But things are not even remotely catastrophic. If anything the lack of media optimism and the fact they keep reaching deeper into pessimism and despair could be artificially holding stocks lower and thus doing us a solid favor by increasing the time that the market is essentially "On Sale." I'm guessing 9 months of volatility and some decent trading bouncing between cash when it's up and then going in on some solid performers when it's low. Not day trading but maybe week trading and month trading.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on soundhound? I sold off all my shares at $19.50 thinking about getting back in.

So long term, where should I put some investment? I know this isn't a financial investment firm, but you guys seems to know the game somewhat. I saw Amzn was low due to the tarrifs, and if those ever reverse on down the road....

My opinion - VTI/VTSAX/FSKAX. The first is an ETF that you buy shares of, the second one is a Vanguard mutual fund, the third one is a Fidelity mutual fund. Mutual funds you start with a minimum initial investment, in these cases I think 1 or 3k, can't remember, but it's under 5 if I remember correctly. I use Fidelity as my broker now, so I used FSKAX.

These are all (roughly) the same investment vehicle of a total market fund. It's about 75-80% an S&P500 fund with some extra zest in there. These are my boring/boomer stonks, where I am banking things wisely for retirement/long term real investments.

Dicking around? I got @cartter469 onto $F and playing with options with $F. Gotta do your own due diligence, but in '08 they survived without a bailout, they did cut their dividend (not great), and looking to today's issues, they have a lot of production in MX but they're one of the best (US makes) for US side production and part sourcing (I think Hyundai and Kia might actually do better than them, they have some huge plants down south, and Ford sells a lot of the same NA models/builds to the UK, MX, and AU, so they have a global footprint. The Kia/Hyundais you see in the US are mostly just in the US, so they make them here instead).

Like @theesotericone knows NVDA and has gotten to know them, their business cycles, the impacts of their decisions and world events, etc - if you pick a random company and go with that, you can get a lot out of it. That was me with $F, and I got @cartter469 onto that train :) BUT I have since backed off a bit and haven't been keeping up with it/paying attention to it/playing options with it.

I prefer mutual funds. Mutual funds are made up of multiple stocks. So you're buying into multiple companies. With 1 or 2 or 3 stocks you have all your eggs in one or 2 baskets. With a mutual fund you may have your eggs in 70 or 80 baskets (companies). Or with an S&P500 Index fund, 500 companies.

So a good mutual fund that has a long track record of good returns over a long period (15+ years) or so. Also with a low expense ratio (low fees) <0.50%
A good S&P index fund would also be a good place to start.

I currently have 2 Mutual funds due to 401K's past and present. So I'm limited to my choices if I want my employer match.
One is a JPMorgan and the other is a Vanguard.
Both are Large Cap Growth Mutual Funds. Both have basically the same holdings. Apple, NVIDIA, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, Alphabet , etc.
Even with this years downturn they've got about a 20% average return over the past 10 years, and about a 15% at 15 years.

Long term? Keep saving. This is a non kidding post for once.

In all seriousness if you are not saving AT LEAST 30% of every dime that comes in your possession you are NUTS. You don't have to start at 30%, work your way there. 10%-15%-20% etc. In a year or two 30%

I do have multi-millions. How did I get there (with a stay at home wife-mom for 18 years or so)? Saving, working my ass off and not buying useless toys. I have nice tools because I also started two businesses, but that's a side gig discussion.

All my real job savings went into bi-weekly buys of wide market funds. That is all.

Oh and go back and buy a house in 2017 and then refi in Jan of 2021 to sit on a 2.625% mortgage rate on a house priced from 2017.

    :spy:

Our mortgage payment is 15% of take home each month.

That got me curious. Ours is 12.85% of after tax income. We also bought in 2009 so we've doubled on value. Not a shitty position to be in. lol
