    Hello all,

I had a new Stage 2 Centerforce Clutch and flywheel installed 10k miles ago. When I put the truck in 1st gear and release the clutch a rubbing goose noise can be heard. I called Centerforce and sent them the video attached and they sent me a new clutch as they had never heard this noise.

Has anyone heard this sound before?

    Many thanks to all.

can be anything & kind of hard to decipher from the video...
    Who installed the clutch?
Was the flywheel resurfaced or even replaced if not resurfaced?
    Meaning professionally resurfaced?
Sometimes after im done resurfacing if it still has an aggressive finish to the surface & not mirror smooth I get a whistle whine sound as the disc is skimming the flywheel.
This usually goes away after break-in....
You need to stethoscope the noise & attempt to isolate....
Could be in the bellhousing / clutch disc area, could be clutch master cylinder or slave...
Only does it while youre releasing the pedal & the truck is actually trying to move & youre slipping the clutch as its engaging?
Also did you install a new pilot bearing?

Did it just start making the noise, or was it there since day 1?
Thats really a hands on scenario to diagnose & isolate to really get a feel of what's taking place in my professional experience, can really see what your doing & what the car is doing...

    slater,

A professional shop in Lakeland installed the clutch. The flywheel is brand new. I ordered the entire clutch kit with new T.O.B and pilot bearing.

It only does the noise in first gear when I am releasing the clutch and trying to move. It only makes the noise sporadically and just starting making the noise. The clutch only had 4,000-5,000 miles on it before the noise started.

    Thank you,

Here are the pictures of the clutch making that noise. The kit came with everything. I called center force and they said I’d didn’t have a pilot bearing for that setup but they have one in it to help align the clutch disc. First one made it 10k miles. Second made it a few weeks. The kit was completely replaced but the flywheel. Which was taken to a well known matching shop who did a 2 step on it to ensure the camping was the same as it’s stepped where it bolts and where the disc rides.

    Master won’t case that noise.

The noise only happens when you release the clutch, so does it stop making the noise if you hold your foot in place during the release or does the noise continue once your foot has lifted to a certain point?

If it only makes the when your foot is continuing to release then I'd say that the noise is the clutch sliding on the shaft, the clutch-release fork pivoting on the ball, or a an issue with the master or slave cylinder.

If the noise occurs regardless of where your foot is in the clutch travel, but only occurs at a certain point and is relative to rpm, then I would say you have a bearing or surfacing issue causing the noise.

Try and hold the clutch where the noise is present and change the rpm, if the noise changes that's a pretty good indication of whether its a rotational issue or a sliding issue.

Cant really tell orientation from the pic but be CERTAIN youre installing the disc the correct direction,
It doesnt work correctly either way....
If that was a new flywheel or resurfaced ion the pic, you def found the problem for whatever reason.....
That flywheel is beat to fuck, hot spots, heat checked, etc for a fresh install....
Also the disc is severely worn for a new install...
Something was causing it to overheat, not disengage completely & drag / overheat, etc...

Hopefully its behind you at this point...

Also I would torque everything , flywheel to crank, & pressure plate to flywheel....
    stagger pattern when tightening, always...
dont ram 1 bolt home at a time on the pressure plate.

All was installed correctly they have a sticker that says flywheel side on the disc. Everything was torqued to specs and in a few stages in a x pattern all the way around

Yeah, didnt realize you were a shop doing the work until after I sent the message, appears you know what youre doing...
That flywheel is beat to fuck or a fresh replacement along with the clutch disc....
