My 2021 Tacoma with 6M started stumbling and hesitating the other day. I changed the spark plugs a few weeks ago and everything was fine. A week later, I noticed a slight stumble when under a load (such as shifting into second gear at a lower rpm). I didn't think too much of it at the time because the morning was cold and it only did it that one time on my 30 minute drive. Over the course of the week it has gotten worse to the point I had to limp it home.

It didn't throw a check engine light until today - P0393 Bank 2 position b high value. This points to the cam position sensor on the driver side, exhaust cam.

This happens to be the only sensor plug I removed when replacing the spark plugs.

I went through the FSM and did resistance and voltage checks on all of the terminals, and from the plug to the ECM plug E9. I also replaced the cam sensor with a new one.

Does anyone have other insights? The pigtail is kind of hard to access but wires appear to be in good condition, and the pins are seated in the terminal block.

Does the harness go under the intake? May need to pull intake to check for damages

    Update! Problem solved.

I was really hesitant to do this but I pulled the intake manifold off to investigate a little. I did not see any problems with the harness. I went ahead and cut the CMP sensor plug off and spliced in a new replacement. And guess what?!? That did NOT fix my issue.

I did a little more searching and came across a post on TW from a guy with a similar issue… had new plugs installed that ran well for a few hundred miles and then started to stumble and hesitate. His conclusion was that the shop installed the incorrect spark plugs.

so I pulled a plug and it did not look good. It wasn’t even the correct part number!

The first spark plug change I did 60k miles ago I searched eBay for 90919-01263 (or denso FK20HBR8) and bought a set. This time I did the same thing - searched for a set of 90919-01263 and found a very reasonable set for $65. They arrived in boxes that looked just like genuine parts boxes. I thought i scored big on the $65 price but apparently I was duped into purchasing a set of counterfeit plugs as I learned in this video https://youtu.be/FVA4RYql9KU?si=vK7PwjJslRZ6RM-W

1200 miles later they were trashed.

So I stopped by the dealer today and picked up a fresh set, installed them and good as new. I wasted about 8 hours of my life chasing this problem.
