Having an issue with my A/T Temp light . I believe it’s an electrical issue as it turns on right as the car is turned on and only turns off when the headlights are toggled on.

let me know if any of you have had this issue or any ideas as to what is causing it?

Trans Fluid was changed recently and I’ve made sure the car wasn’t in Temp check mode.

    thank you!!

Just to be clear the light comes on and stays on when the key is turned off but is off when the engine is running?

What AT do you have? If it is the 4 speed I might have some pages from the service manual that could possible help (probably isnt a 4 speed though)

Then I have nothing that can help you, unfortunately. But you can buy temp access to your service manual and download electrical circuit diagrams that you need, if you are so inclined!

If it makes you feel any better, in my beater civic I would be concerned if I had NO lights illuminated on the dash! I'd think someone broke in and stole the bulbs! Best of luck to you finding a fix, may be something as simple as a bad ground in the dash itself, or moisture completing a circuit. very strange.

The speedometer was repaired by the dealer recently. I wonder if it was a faulty repair or install?

Get a TIS account at techinfo.toyota.com ... can be kind of tricky/ not intuitive to navigate/ search for what you need at first, but once you figure it out there is a TON of info on there. It has all the logs that the dealers/ mechanics use with detailed schematics and diagnosis steps, etc.

Try putting it in temp check mode, go through the process, check the level and see if that fixes it. When I did my drain and fill I was told I needed to do it or the light would come on in a couple weeks and stay until I went through the process. Not sure how the tranny would know it got new fluid but just a thought. Might reset it anyways and much cheaper/easier than electrical work.

Try the easy stuff first like pull the battery terminal. That resets the ECU. Another possibility is a short induced by rodents. How long ago was the speedo repair?

thanks I’ll give the site a try.

The fact it goes off when the headlights are switched on and it started happening after the cluster was repaired/replaced would suggest it's an issue in the cluster itself.

The A/T Temp light is directly controlled by the ECM by it grounding the wire at Connector C9 Pin 39 (Pink) of the cluster.
There is an intermediate connector (II1) that it goes through that could be an issue but I don't think so as nothing for the lighting system goes through that connector.

FWIW I did 3 drain and fills on both my taco and my moms rav4 and checked temp with scanner and never entered check mode and didn't have any issues with the light. I would suspect something with the gauge cluster repair since that was recent and it goes off with the headlights on. Sounds like something is shorting out or mis connected, I can't imagine an intentional trans code that would throw the light unless you had the headlights on lol. I'd hope the dealer would cover something if it was result of their cluster repair

Yeah and that $600 thing is BS. If you suspect they caused it, def fight them on that.
