So a few years back I purchased a whole stage 4a Fox 2.5 w/ DSC suspension package w/ Tundra rear Fox shocks and all the other goodies (Icon UCAs, leaf springs, etc) It's been great and they have held up very well (my rig weighs 5640 lbs w/ bumpers, full steel skids, sliders, etc)

I'm coming up on 50k on the setup and reached out to get a quote on rebuilding. Damnnn I got a quote of just under a grand to rebuild the 4 shocks, and that's with me boxing them up and shipping them out. Also that includes a 25% labor discount bc I ordered the components from them (won't mention the vendor)

Is this in line with what people are paying? Didn't realize it was that pricey and guess I was just caught off guard. I know I can shop around but wanted to hear other people's experiences and advice if possible.

How much are new ones? That is really what you should be comparing that rebuild price to.

Call around a few places and see if your quote is competitive. I imagine there are many shops in the greater LA area that can do it.

IMO $1k for all four sounds reasonable considering how much the whole setup costs now, but you need to be clear with them on what the cost entails, just labor and consumable parts?

I guess that's the same calculation we make with regards to fixing/maintaining our trucks vs buying a new one

Shockingly I checked and the price for the same setup is only a few hundred more than what I paid in 2020. I would have thought the inflation factor would have been much worse.

The rebuild kits are $50 each, so $200 there. Roughly $700 in labor, and then return shipping costs. So $700/4 = $175 per shock. I guess it does sound more reasonable when you break it down.

The old axiom holds true, gotta pay to play I suppose.

If you're not re-valving, just seals, oil, and recharging I would think it would be less.

The bad thing too is that you can't drive the truck while they are being rebuilt unless you have another set to use.

I know I'm trying to factor in not needing the truck for a couple weeks between shipping time both ways, their turnaround time, etc

I've seen some folks giving away their stock shocks/struts so maybe you could get a set and use them while the others are being rebuilt. I guess, if you are a baller, you buy 2 complete sets for just this reason. LOL

It was about $500 for parts last time I rebuilt all 4 corners. I already had nitrogen and misc. tools. I'd say you'd be in about a grand doing it yourself if you need to purchase everything for the rebuild (parts, tools, oil, nitrogen, etc...).

No motocross or off-road fabrication shops in your area? Rebuilding the shocks doesn't require much special tooling.

I was a baller back in 20 with the PPP money I used to buy this set. Not so much now so my truck will sit on jacks for two weeks :D

Might be worth doing yourself I guess. I've seen some Youtube videos showing how to go about it.

Don't have the tools or skillset to accomplish this. I DIY nearly everything on this rig, but not this. So if it cost you $500 doing it yourself then just under a grand for the pros to do it is reasonable. Thx for this data point.

yea I watched some videos as well, not something I'm willing to tackle, especially the nitrogen recharging portion.

Nowhere near your setup, but i just sent my TRD Pro Fox’s to a local shop. $165 each corner. Scored a set of trd off-road shocks with spacers for $100 on FB so i wont have down time.

I'm with OP on this job; pay the man! There are things that I just don't have much experience with, and suspension stuff is one of them!
