It most likely came off when it got clogged with chips. Glad that you were able to get it sorted. Now you can get those shelves finished up.

Probably correct!! No idea where the cardboard came from, just finished planing in short order and I truly can say it ran better than the very first time since I plugged it in new 2 years ago. I will send a thank you note to DeWalt for the cardboard hahahahaha

Playing with the new desktop CNC/Laser thing some. Learning a bunch of stuff, but here's some test things I did for the kiddos scout troop.

    [IMG]upload_2025-4-9_21-26-19.png

While it can do metal, I just grabbed a bunch of scrap wood to play with too.

I am stuck between live edge and not wanting just a milled wooden shelf. It is all I come up with short of a box shelf.

Hope it turns out nicely. I don't have the ability to freehand with a Dremel and end up with something that looks presentable!

I freehanded the stars with a Dremel on a bunch of flags back in 2019. I don’t think that I would attempt something like that though.

You Dremel-heads convinced me of a new plan ... cutting board with bloodwood, ash, cherry, african padauk, figured maple ... and endcaps of domestic hard maple with names engraved. But my years-old Craftsman rotary tool stopped rotating the head.

    Darn you all to heck!

Posting again as a non-woodworker, the last part of DIY stool.

@wilcam47 made one more contribution which is my backrest pad.

Took this pic after I drilled the holes, was excited about getting some t-nuts installed.

    20250410_155727.jpg

The backrest pad will be covered in the same top grain leather that I used for my stool cushion.

    20250410_155500.jpg

Big difference here is that the pad is larger than the Vyper pad I got as a placeholder at 7" x 9" vs the Vyper's 6" x 8".

    20250401_081306.jpg

Not only that, the Vyper feels really lightweight and peering at the rear it looks like they used cheap particle board for their back piece.

I'm just stoked that it's going to provide a lot more support.

Dropping it off tomorrow at an upholstery shop to discuss what I want done which will be quick and easy, but I'll need to decide on the foam too.

Any medium/firm high-density foam will work.

They specialize in chairs/sofas (old and modern) as well as vehicle upholstery. Been in business since the 50's.

So I'm going in and seeing what they recommend for a backrest foam.

This is the layout I intend to use for the internal part of the board ... unspecified "domestic maple" ("unspecified hard maple" is good it itself) on the end-caps with engraved names. If anyone thinks the order needs to be changed feel free to comment.
