I think you’re mentioning the extra 6.5% tax that’s for retailers. That doesn’t apply to private sales which is why I mentioned it. Better to purchase new through a private sale and dodge the extra tax. Hopefully I can sell it locally, but did put it on Gunbroker since I’ve had success sell there there too.

 

Nope, not a reference to the sales tax. You indicated a reluctance to ship. Some people only ship machine parts.

 

I have my FFL do the shipping for me. I don't have to worry about how it's labeled or what vendor to use. This is their bread and butter so they know how to do it better than I ever will.

I think the OP is reluctant to ship because he wants to maximize his $900 and he knows that if a buyer needs it shipped they may be splitting the fee or the OP may be eating it. I've seen shipping go from $43 to $160. All depends on the vendor and if you want the insurance.

I shipped a bunch of antique clocks I inherited from Dallas to Phoenix. UPS. Insured it for $800. Box looked like it was hit with a forklift a few times and clocks were toast. I filed the insurance and then had to jump through hoops, and then more hoops, and then the claim was denied because they said I didn't jump through the right hoops, but I did and I could prove it so I escalated it. They apologized and made me start over from scratch so I filed a new claim, jumped through all of the hoops again and got to the end and the claim was denied because I took too long to respond to them - all responses were in less than 24 hours so I escalated again and they agreed and apologized but told me you only get two claims and then there is nothing they can do.

So they manufactured the hoops you have to jump through, then they manufactured the rules they declined it for, then they manufactured the appeals process, then they manufactured more rules to fail it a second time an then manufactured a reason I couldn't continue. Only option is to sue them in small claims court and that takes too much time. F-THAT. Never shipping anything over $100 again.

 

Yup USPS insurance is a fraud. Almost iden tical situation as above of a set of rare oem VW cylinders. No Bueno!
