    Hello All,

I have a 2003 Tacoma with the 5VZ-FE and I've recently picked up a Magnuson MP62 Supercharger that I'd like to install on it. I know that there is a LOT of info out there, and I've done a couple of preliminary searches, downloaded the installation guide, watched the Timmy The Toolman's video on Sean's install in his 4Runner, and organized my thoughts.

I want a BONE STOCK supercharger install. I want to have it as it would have come out of the factory. I know that's not the popular or hot thing to do, but that's what I want now and it can always be changed later.

My question is this: Should I have to do anything to the ECU/electronics or is this all mechanical for now? It seems as simple as pulling my upper/lower plenum and plopping the SC down, getting the tensioner on and getting the correct belt. Is it really that simple?

    Please let me know, thanks!

Would at the very least change fuel filter and add colder spark plugs.

It’s really that simple. No electronics required unless you start adding controllers and whatnot. The most tedious thing you’ll be doing is figuring out vacuum routing, and even that’s not that bad.

Repositioning the dipstick tube was a bit of a challenge but doable.

You'll also have to modify the timing belt cover slightly for clearance for the supercharger.

As noted, a little bit of hose routing. Adding the check valve in the air assist hose. Modifying the timing cover, which will also include slightly re-routing the spark plug wires. I would highly recommend IK20 or IK22 plugs and a higher flow fuel pump, both made a world of difference on my truck which similar to what you're going for being mostly stock. Definitely use a torque wrench on the fasteners to the intake manifold and don't go over 15 ft lbs or you'll be headed to the auto parts store for helicoils. Be careful at first with the tensioner bolts, make sure the threads get started well before putting much torque to them. Get the belt routed around the tensioner before torqueing it down.
If it's a used S/C, I'd also recommend checking all the bearings and rotors while it's still out of the truck. That will require resealing the nose cone but it doesn't take long and is nice to know what sort of condition all of those components are in, and that it isn't due for a rebuild.

I appreciate the input. I will most likely go with the spark plug route, but at this time I'm not interested in a higher flow fuel pump. Good call on the timing belt tensioner installation - did you use any locktite on those bolts when installing? The SC has very few hours/miles on it. I'm guessing less than 3K. It feels rock solid, no movement in the pulley.

Quick follow-up about missing hardware/etc. I emailed a list of parts that I don't have to Magnuson and they recommended I reach out to SCOL. Has anyone ordered from them before?

Going back and forth in an email string with the guys from SCOL, can someone send me a picture of the factory plate that gets removed where the 7th injector mounts? I don't have the factory plate on my SC

You might need a different throttle cable bracket, my truck is an 02 and uses a different one from the one on yours.IMG_2814.jpg IMG_2815.jpg

02 is drive by cable. 03-04 is drive by wire.

03-04 with iECTS still has a single cable backup. The 01-02 have dual throttle cables.

Fire. Thank you everyone. Got a quote back. Looks reasonable.

They call the plate the PCV plate. So I had them add it to the order.

Holly cow they changed you $55 for 2 stickers?

Anyone happen to have a pdf for the template to trim the timing belt cover?

Yeah I thought that was kind of.. overkill? But I'd budgeted about $350 in "additional parts" cost to mount this SC, so I'm still under budget.. it just doesn't make it sting any less

@chrslefty yeah I've considered everything.. I have a URD 7th kit.. but I'm not going to use it. It's actually listed in the classifieds section here.

I'm not a tuner, I don't want a powerhouse. I just want a simple reliable pickup. Don't want to mess with fuel pumps and pulleys and all that. I have other rigs that need more attention. Plus this truck is getting a manual swap in about a month, so more boost-related mods just aren't in my eyesight at the moment.

I had the same reasoning and wanted to keep it relatively stock. So no 7th injector, no methanol, no modified/hi flow injectors, no standalone ECU. I ended up going with the Vortech FMU route and the fact they had FMU setups on the earlier superchargers, I figured it's a good option. It's been working great. Could always revert/remove it easily and/or upgrade to the other options down the road.
