Anybody running aftermarket oem style headlights? Recommendations? Or just spend the money and go oem?

I bought depo black oem's and had them clear bra'd and they've been fantastic. Probably the only undamaged/leaking/broken part of my truck right now... Haha

@jpereira2 if you want the best optics, OEM is the way to go. Anything else is going to be a step down, but I agree Depo / TYC is going to be the best of the non-OEM. I toyed with doing film on my 2020 OEM LEDs but there's some debate back and forth whether it impacts the performance of the lamps and it can damage the UV clear if it's on there two long. For the price of those I elected to just hit it with a sealant a few times a year.

How much longer are you keeping the truck and how much do you care about having peak lighting performance? That's the math you'll have to do. What's the delta in cost? If you're going OEM, I'd go with the 2015 SR lamps with the darker housing.

@nickonfire700 Thanks for the suggestion on reselling my told tires. I got $300 and sold them to a guy on Marketplace who puts like 50,000 miles on his Tacoma a year so he'll burn through them long before the final year or two of life hit. Pays for my new spare, or something.

No problem! When I sold my original KO2s, the guy that bought them was tickled pink that he found a used set with decent tread depth. It's funny, I got the same price for my old tires back in 2021 when I put on my second set of KO2s as well.

The only thing that effects how long I keep my truck is if I end up with my dad's tundra. Soonest that would possibly happen is 3 years.

What do you think the realistic lifespan of Depo parts are? I am debating on getting Pro or standard SR taillights to replace my 2020+ chrome, faux anzo taillights. I have leftover Adams graphine ceramic coating so i may hit the the taillights on my oem LED heads. I already have a VLED conversion

From this thread I can reference the part numbers to Toyota of Nashua and they're about $230/side with $41 for shipping (zero tax because NH). Boch South is only $205/side but they charge $50 for shipping plus tax. Sullivan Brothers in Kingston is $240/side, zero shipping but tax. So call it $500ish for a set between the three places.

On eBay you can find these for about $275 shipped as eBay charges shipping. Those aren't the nicer smoked housings. At the end of the day is OEM and the smoked housings worth $225? If you're planning on keeping the truck a minimum of three years, I would, simply because I don't see the housings degrading again that fast compared to the Depo which is a bit of an unknown entity. You also ultimately don't know how good they will or won't fit whereas OEM is basically a known quantity.

    YMMV.

That's the unknown entity to me. IMHO tail lamps and headlamps are also a different animal as tail lamps are safety, but it's also not your visibility. A used set of SR / 2018 lamps is also an alternative to the Depos. I wouldn't pass on a set of Depos on a good sale in theory. I'm a bit of an OEM parts snob (and I know this about myself) so I wouldn't do replica Pro lamps, but I also don't think it's a quality / usability issue there.

I understand that. OEM may only be about $50 more when they run their annual 25% off sale. I have a couple OEM parts on already with some factory TRD Pro wheels so i may stay that route

Normally I never use aftermarket branded headlights and always buy oem however my oem's were yellow'd over and these were 90$ shipped for a pair of two new. I honestly figured I would have busted them off roading before anything. Luckily I haven't had any issues with them, I still run standard halogen bulbs in them and visibility with them is fine. If I need more I have my fogs which are Diode SS3 Max's.

It could be that I got lucky with mine, or I just took the right steps with the clearbra but I have no leaking issues or wiring issues with mine. I did swap the oem headlight harness over to the new assemblies though. Been going strong since 2016.

I hadn't thought about film. That said, I just had to restore the ones on mine. At least the passenger side one is original so for 15 yrs not too shabby. I can't recall if the driver's side is or not but best case 10 years or so old. I just used my DA with some Chemical Guys restorer and then sprayed the sealant (Meguiar's I think).

Very true re head/tail. I almost bought a Depo tail to replace my busted OEM..saw "Toyota Tacoma LED tail, $65" and inquired of the brand. Once I heard Depo I said I could get a new Depo shipped for less than he was asking not to mention the hour drive each way. He said "maybe I can do 60" and I politely declined, again citing the cost difference and driving time. That said I wasn't opposed to using that particular brand of course.
