Sorry to hear it’s been a stupid and unnecessary fight the entire time. I guess the insurance company makes you pay for what they think they’d get if it was auctioned? Not sure how that works since you needed to buy it back. Stupid shit

Correct. Legally they had to provide me with the estimates offered to them from at bare minimum 1-2 salvage companies. And those values are determined upon what those salvage companies would pay to ANYONE selling them a vehicle. I genuinely believe they would have gotten more money for it than they claimed to me and that they would have made out like bandits because of how modified and well put together the truck was.

its important to note because we all modify our shit, they WOULD NOT pay out for any mods at all. The only thing they even CONSIDERED, but never actually DID, would be to pay for SOME of the value of my literally brand new wheels and tires and brakes. I ended up not getting compensated for any of that so it made more sense to just keep the truck. I had literally just spent $2400 on wheels and tires and $750 on rotors, pads, and napa life time warranty front calipers. So its obvious i should keep and reuse those things that have undee 2k miles on them. Seem fair?

We as people who modify our daily drivers need to seek out an additional policy called a “rider policy” in which you provide receipts for the parts you want claimed and you agree upon an ADDITIONAL value coverage. Some insurance companies flat out do not offer this and you have to get an additional policy through another agency. Its a mess. Both insurance companies I dealt with, would not pay out anything more than a bone stock truck. Thats fucking insanity to me since I have receipts and had a third party inspector…

Who do you have for insurance? After reading your post I went looking at my policy with USAA and can’t find anything. I did find a post that they cover up to a certain amount but don’t offer addition rider for mods. Then I was checking to see if they cover “accidents” off road and didn’t see anything either.

I think of it that I won’t get any value besides personal enjoyment from my mods unless I can resell them.

It’s terrible that you’ve got to even buy the truck back to get those items from it.

I will wait for some things to get listed for sale, I may be interested in the seats. Do they have the side airbags?

It sucks with what you have to go through with the insurance companies, you never get a "fair" settlement. The amount they give you will never get you back into a similar vehicle without you having to add your own money to make up the difference.

No sir. 05-08 did not have side curtain or seat air bags.

yup, this vehicle has been paid off since i believe 2015, and i have not had a vehicle loan since 2018. Now I’ll likely have one again at no fault of my own….

but the secret to vehicular and financial success in life is to:
    1. Buy a Toyota
    2. Pay it off
    3. Drive it until it dies

i’d rather say when its all settled.

you’d be surprised how much they hide in the policies that you wont see the light of UNTIL you have a problem and need them.

For instance. Back in 2016 I had a young lady come to a complete stop at a green light in the middle of a 4 way intersection with heavy traffic for absolutely no reason. I lightly tapped her back bumper on her chevy cruze and cracked it. My truck was COMPLETELY undamaged. I was advised by the responding officer to not just buy her a bumper, have it painted and swap it out. He said “let your insurance handle it and you will be protected, just trust me. She just told me this is her 7th vehicle accident in less than 4 years. You need to be careful.”

So i contacted my insurance, made the claim, told them my vehicle was undamaged and I would assume any and all responsibility since in Maryland if you rear end someone, no matter what IT IS DEEMED YOUR FAULT. I also told them there was no damage to my vehicle, signed off on that, and then told them about the damage to her vehicle. This was at the time they came up with the whole “accident forgiveness” program. So it literally cost me nothing. They fixed her car (or she pocketed the money) and we all moved on.

WHAT I DID NOT KNOW, is that because of that accident, my truck was deemed as having had a front end collision. I couldn't see that anywhere on a car fax or anything. The insurance companies showed it to me when they valued my truck. They basically showed me that they wouldn't use my comparable vehicles that were low mileage two owner clean title trucks, because mine evidently wasn’t as cherry as I thought, and I had no fucking idea. These sneaky snakes are sneaky. :(

Having a good laugh right now. Checked on something I ordered from Temu and haven’t gotten yet. Ordered 4 things from there and got the other 3… the last one… maybe I’ll get, shipping through USPS-

As much of a soft spot I have for S10's, 2WD is a deal breaker. I had a '99 regular cab 4 cylinder, 5 speed. Someone put 3.42 gears and a lunchbox locker in it so it was about as fast as a snail with a hard on. 0-60 was no

Not a bad looking little truck! Those are pretty much becoming non-existent around here. The ones left have wifi rockers and bluetooth cab corners

The only rust on this truck is the bed supports. Thats a project for this summer. Pull the bed, flip it over, drill out the spot welds, plug weld the new supports on, clean, prime, and undercoat the whole under side of the bed. Should last a long time after that.

Was going to do a 4.8/5 speed conversion, but I sold it as I switched jobs and no longer had a company truck and needed a 4WD truck to get to work. That started Tacoma's for me. I'm now on #5 :anonymous:
