It is a PITA to kill off - has huge rhizomes/roots underground = how it just pops up everywhere at once
I have gobs of it - every few years I grab some trash bags and just rip out as much of it as I can/or at least the parts trying to smother trees
Have to bag it up and remove it or all those bits will just make even more of that shit..

 

I don’t know what’s in it, but the technique may help. I have a brown glass jar filled with a mystery liquid. My father would put some in a baby jar and put the end or a cut end into the jar… leave it there for a couple days and watch the whole thing die a fateful death without disturbing the rest of the growing things…
