my apology for being in the wrong forums. it definitely is maintenance with any canister filter especially in rural areas, where the tanks at both the station and in your car can corrode. I'm not totally sure with the in the tank filters. I know they are supposed to last a "lifetime" but if it were me id still take a look at it.

again my apology for being in the wrong forums. filters are still relevant there now that many first gen trucks are now 20-30 years old with multiple hundreds of thousands of miles.

I didn't read through everyone's responses. And truly probably most of what they said doesn't matter that much. I'll see a lot of people lie about the MPG of these trucks. Claiming they get 20 to 23 miles to the gallon in one. It just isn't going to happen! 15 to 17 if you drive like an 80-year-old grandpa should be about right. Drive it hard, you can expect down in the range of 11 miles to the gallon. Anything above 55 you can expect the mpg to drop again so understand that you hit 80 miles an hour and you're going to be pushing the 11 miles to the gallon range. Not much more you can do about it. Now if magically you were getting a lot better somehow before and lost the mpg, like say you were getting the 15 but now you're getting 11 constantly then yes maybe something has changed and needs to be repaired or replaced. But again if you're just expecting those numbers that people are claiming, change your thinking you're not going to get those numbers.

Recently I had a drop in mind and now I got to figure out what's wrong with it. No check engine white or anything like that to go off of. I did all of the cleaning of the mass air flow sensor new plugs air filter, Etc still nothing. I'm getting about 240 Mi to a tank now. Where is before I got about 270 on a 99% bone stock v6 truck.

My brain is a grandma, the right foot is a teenager. The foot always wins so I’m lucky to get more than 12 mpg.

Drop in mileage was the same thing that happened to me when I replaced stock plugs with iridiums.
That's why I was curious about the plugs.

Yep, like no dipstick on the transmission. What were they thinking (aside from dealership making money)?

I literally double check my engine bay for a tranny dip stick the other day. ended up buying amsoil mtg because I have no idea what the condition of the fluid is in. 100 bucks for some gl4 is nuts but what can you do.

I did not see tire pressure among all the noise. What is it?

Not many (any?) vehicles with a metal tank anymore. With Tacomas, plastic tanks since 2005
And honestly I think the majority of gas stations tanks are fiberglass now, but even with steel tanks unless the station is owned by a scumbag, they all have good filtration.

I dropped a tank on a 2005 with 200k, tank was squeaky clean. Looked like it was brand new. I expected some sediment or something. Nothing.

When you use the fuel system cleaner, and after driving at normal temps for a while, flog the engine at full throttle on some uphill freeway onramps a few time to really cook off any carbon on the pistons and valves. I usually do this immediately before an oil change.

I would say the stations are all dependent on where you live. I'm in Idaho, originally from southern Washington. found this online.

    - Idaho
: Only about 34% of gas stations are following the rules to prevent underground fuel tank leaks. That means most stations might still have older or riskier systems.
    - California: The exact number isn't listed, but California has very strict rules and regular inspections, so most gas stations there are following the leak prevention laws better than Idaho.
    - Colorado (for comparison): About 93% of gas stations meet the leak prevention standards—one of the best in the country.

I've run Techron 87 from Chevron for 133k miles with a good bit of trailer towing for work and recreation. Can't say I got better gas mileage but engine is strong as when I bought it.
