The truck is clean. No mud or dirt. What can i check for to see what the issue is? Just got the truck used but if i can fix it quickly id rather not turn it in. Thanks

Assuming this is what happened sometime in the truck's past, as it is a common occurrence, when the system errors out due to getting packed with snow under the bumper, it throws codes that can only be seen by Techstream. Scanning/clearing the codes is the first step. If that fixes it, you're good. If not, you could have a bad sensor or some other part.

Did you make sure the BSM button is turned on and didn’t get turned off when you cleaned it. I’ve been guilty of that myself.

A generic scanner will not pull the codes. You need to use Techstream. So, your options are to find someone local, possibly someone on this site who has a version of TS that will work for your year Tacoma or take it to the dealer to scan and clear. You can also purchase a 2-day subscription to Techstream for $25 or find a bootleg version that may be posted on this site somewhere. Either way, you'll need an interface cable and a laptop. There are cheap cables on Amazon that can be hit or miss, or you can get a Tactrix cable. I initially went with an Amazon cable and it worked maybe one or two times, then would never connect again. Others have had better luck. I finally broke down and bought the Tactrix cable and it works every time. BTW... I bought the cable to fix the same issue you are having. I cleared the stored codes using a bootleg version of TS, then drove it with the system on (still displaying the error message, as clearing the codes didn't resolve it immediately) and after about 5 or 10 miles the error went away and the BSM system was working again. Not saying this will be your experience, but that's where I would start unless you want to just drop it off at the dealer and just tell them to fix it, which would likely work, but will come with a hefty repair bill if the truck is past the 36K mile bumper to bumper warranty.

So i should try driving it with the warning on and see if that clears it? Truck has 17,722 on the mileage.

Yes, I'd try driving it with the warning on and see if that does it. It may clear itself. If not, I'd let the dealer fix it since it's still under warranty.

100% just take it to the dealer. It is under warranty.

While I despise letting any dealer touch my vehicle(s), if you try to do 'things' to correct it, the dealer
could come back and say 'you' messed it up and refuse to fix it under warranty.
