Im looking to repair these rock chips in my hood. I'm on a budget but also am looking for the best results. Do I repaint the entire hood, or should I buy a paint marker and blend it in with polish? I don't even know where to get paint. will Sherwin Williams match my paint for cheap? I know my paint code is 045. I tried to use a paint matched marker from orileys but it was totally a different color. I brought it back and this is where I am at now. I know nothing about automotive paint. I want to do it the right way but simply don't know how. Im willing to spend up to 200 bucks or so (I have a couple smaller chips around the truck I'd like to try & tackle too) IMG_3258.jpg

That hood hands down needs to be repainted PROFESSIONALLY , way too much damage for any touch-up....
Or maybe a cheaper option would be sand the hood so its clean of imperfections & have it vinyl wrapped to somewhat color match the rest of the paint, it wont match though...

all what looks like to be faded paint around the chips is just from me prepping to use the marker. Would Maaco be able to do something like that for me? what should I look for when finding a shop.

If theres a Maaco nearby, that would be plenty good of an option, vs touch-up....
touch up is just for smaller scratches, pits, etc, something this big & the prepped faded areas is over the top. Will look horrible if just touched up...

Whole hood, will need a little light patch. If you have the tools and skills, look up MBI Auto on Ebay. I've done three paint repaints with their stuff, both metallic, the match was nearly perfect. You can probably do it with a pint, $31.99, and if you need clear coat, $27.99. Some whites don't get clear coat, if it's the white pearl it will need clear coat.

Is there a trade school in your area that has a body shop class?

...just for the hell of it, look around the area for used white hoods.....

just for kicks, I looked very quickly on eBay as I have to get out of here and to work, but eBay has a nice looking one in white, $280, and $200 shipping, and while it is the wrong year, (as I said, just trying to get an idea and gotta run) just to give you the idea that it might be worth your while to check it out.....

    Yeah.
    This is a good suggestion.

You can even get rattle can paint in your paint code, but no factory mix is going to match. Years of exposure has changed the color a bit. On just the hood, this may be no big deal since there are no adjacent panels on the same plane. A professional would be able to adjust tint a bit and get it closer, but that takes a good eye for color, experience, time, and patience. Which is why a shop will charge $750.

That’s pretty cheap given most body shop guys typically won’t get out of bed for less than 1500 bucks.

I have been keeping an eye out on market place and such. Maybe looking online for one. Thanks for the input.

I understand this, but its maaco. I see people get full paint at jobs at maaco for 800-1000 bucks. yeah they aren't good at all, but for some basic prep work and a layer of paint.

The $800 Maaco ghetto respray/overspray is only if they don’t have to do any actual sanding or filler or resurfacing. Like I’ve seen them just paint over defects in the paint for that amount of money. Shit, I’ve seen them overspray into the wheel wells and on the tires.
