Hey all, I have a 2008 regular cab Tacoma. Keep in mind OP, but hypothetically say I wanted to add a backup camera using all OEM equipment. Would all I need to change is the computer in the front, and the junction box on the driver side? Obviously add necessary additional wiring, and tailgate handle etc.

No need to change the junction box or any ECUs but regular cabs don't have alot of the wiring for stuff that is equipped on higher trim trucks whereas access cabs and double cabs tend to be at least partially pre-wired for alot of stuff so that's gona be your main hurdle.

I ran an aftermarket setup to my aftermarket radio. Used oem handle. It's pretty easy running wires down the frame

I’m pretty sure they come prewired and ready to install most of the way. My problem is they made them a standard in 2009 which mine is 08 so I’m a little late lol. My thought process would have been take a junction box with wire harness, and then probably the computer. I just don’t like the idea of splicing wires for power. Nobody else sees it, but I know it’s there and it bothers me.

I’m leaning more towards aftermarket, but I like plug and play with no splicing. I don’t care if it’s hard, I’m willing to do it.

Pretty sure it wasn't standard in 09 but 09 was the first year it was available as an option I believe, at least it doesn't show up in the wiring diagrams until 09.
